Great bass-lines
Edited on Sat Jan-21-06 11:37 AM by jpgray
I'll nominate Chic's "Good Times" (among the most ripped-off lines in music history--I'm looking at you, Mr Deacon) and "I Was Made to Love Her" from the late great James Jamerson. Also Stephen Hanley's work on "I Feel Voxish" is awesome.

1. "I Feel Voxish" = my favorite bassline ever.
Also:

Clash - "The Magnificent Seven" (which is oddly similar to "Another One Bites the Dust")

Joy Divison - too numerous to mention; did Peter Hook ever write a bassline that wasn't terrific?

Smiths - "Barbarism Begins at Home" the funkiest bassline Andy Rourke ever had

There are more, but my mind has gone blank.

6. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, "Do You Love Me" (Part 1).
Great stuff. Some of Mick Harvey's best work with the Bad Seeds, IMO (which is saying something).

14. Heart of the Sunrise by Yes
That bass solo set against those haunting violins near the opening gets me every time.

I'm too lazy to think of any more right now.
