They are kind of neat, but nobody uses them.

1. Why are there dollar coins?
Same kind of thing, really. We used to have gold coins for 1,2,3,4,and 5 dollar denominations.
Ah, the days of old...

14. they are supposed to save money
they last five times as long as dollar bills and thus would save on printing. My suggestion, which I repeat here, is that a $5 coin would put more $1 coins into circulation and thus provide a savings on printing costs. If there were $5 coins people would likely use coins for small (under $20) purchases.

One thing I reallly despise is the $20 bill. It's like bank tellers are trained to use them. If you get $160 you will get 8 $20s. As a small business owner I did not keep hundreds of dollars of change in my till and yet I would have tons of customers who would make $3 purchases and have nothing in their wallet/purse but twenties. Clean me the fu#$ out of change. Twenties are trouble even for larger businesses. They just run you out of change. I always tell the teller, no twenties please, even if I am usually taking the money to another bank.

21. I agree with the coins
As a matter of fact, I'd like to see the US go back to specie coinage and precious metal certificates. But I know that will never happen, because it would directly impact all the people that make money off of the inflated worth of the dollar.

3. I don't know, but I like them!
I could ask the same thing about the $10,000.00 bill, though. I mean, who the hell uses those?

"Uhhhh...have you got change for a $10,000.00?"

11. read Mark Twain's story
The 6 million dollar bill.

Actually it's the "six million pound note", but that's kinda confusing, so I translated it. Otherwise somebody might think it was about weight or music.

8. In San Diego
long ago U.S. Navy Sailors were treated poorly by the locals. The senior officer in charge had the sailors paid in two dollar bills. Soon the locals liked the sailors a lot more.

mugged etc. The sailors were ordered to travel in groups and they were paid with two dollar bills. As the two dollar bills spread through out the community people realized how important sailors and the navy were to the community. Conditions for the sailors improved.

Do a google it is/was an interesting use of the lowly 'two dollar bill'.

20. I've been hanging on to a $2 bill for years
For what, I dunno.

Did y'all know banks won't give you $1,000 bills anymore? I went to the bank to get cash to repay a loan to my sister and BIL a year or so ago. I wanted two $1,000 bills just for the fun of giving 'em to them, but the branch manager told me they aren't allowed to give 'em to customers now.

24. Obviously you don't bet on the ponies
With 2 dollars being the minimum bet, the $2 bill is a hit with skeezy low-rollers who don't want to get kicked out of the OTB parlour but don't want to lose much

And some other stuff, like silver coins. Someone dumped a load of them at the bank one time, so i exchanged some dollars for them.

I would always get a few two dollar bills every few weeks or so. Oddly enough, they seem more popular than those dollar coins!!!
