best song to wake up to?
for christmas i got a cd/alarm clock, so now I can wake up to the music of my choice rather than the annoying buzz of the cheap digital alarm clock i bought my freshman year in college. The best song I've found to wake up to is Josh Rouse's "1972"--it's not a morning-cup-of-coffee type of waking up song, but more of an easy groove to start a nice, mellow day.

So what song would you want to wake up to?

I had to play that song in band this year....Too fucking fast for my poor little fingers! The clarinet was not MADE to be played so agilely (is that a word?) by high-schoolers!

10. haha ... i only have that song on compilations
so it would be followed by Suzy is a Headbanger or I Wanna Live or some such thing. But for me the Ramones are definitely a later-in-the-day kind or listen. Maybe in the car on the way to work, but no earlier :)

5. The Beatles "A Day in the Life"
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 04:42 PM by DiverDave
I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh and
I saw the photograph

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before,
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords.

I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had a look
Having read the book,
I’d love to turn you on...

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Ah

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall.
I’d love to turn you on...

The local rock station in Eugene Oregon (KZEL) played this every morning when I was in 8th grade.
It was always on when my (NEW!!) clock radio would go off at 6am.
Every time I hear it, it reminds me of that time and place.

7. blue sky by the allman brothers band
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 05:24 PM by wildhorses
Walk along the river, sweet lullaby, it just keeps on flowing,
It don't worry 'bout where it's going, no, no.
Don't fly, mister blue bird, I'm just walking down the road,
Early morning sunshine tell me all I need to know

You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day.
Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way,
Turn your love my way, yeah.

Good old sunday morning, bells are ringing everywhere.
Goin to Carolina, it won't be long and I'll be there

15. Let the Day Begin ...
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 06:26 PM by RoyGBiv
-- The Call

Here's to the babies in a brand new world
Here's to the beauty of the stars
Here's to the travellers on the open road
Here's to the dreamers in the bars

Here's to the teachers in the crowded rooms
Here's to the workers in the fields
Here's to the preachers of the sacred words
Here's to the drivers at the wheel

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin

Here's to the winners of the human race
Here's to the losers in the game
Here's to the soldiers of the bitter war
Here's to the wall that bears their names

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day start

Here's to the doctors and their healing work
Here's to the loved ones in their care
Here's to the strangers on the streets tonight
Here's to the lonely everywhere

Here's to the wisdom from the mouths of babes
Here's to the lions in the cage
Here's to the struggles of the silent poor
Here's to the closing of the age.

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day start

24. Late 80's ...
I think it was released in '89. Driving baseline and sharp chords, not that this is really descriptive. :-) At the time I considered it a personal war-cry to get Bush I out of office. (Here's to the closing of the age.) The Call is actually sort of a Christian rock band, or at least they are claimed by Christians. I really don't know, and I choose to interpret lyrics in my own way.

It was kind of a one-hit-wonder sort of deal except that The Call had been around a long time by then. It was just their mainstream hit and musically a bit different from their other stuff.

It's the track #1 song on my "drive to work" CD. It still gets my blood pumping.

I think this link will take you to a short clip from the song. It's a bit slow, so give it a minute if you're interested.

17. Daylight by Toni Price
Not being a morning person, but in fact being somewhat of a vampire, and yet having to arise at 6:30 freaking AM every day, this is my theme song:

I've forgotten why I'm living
Shoulda tied a string around my finger
And I've forgotten what the point is
What to do, don't know ooh

Daylight crashes on my window
Is it really time to get up again?
I have only started dreamin'
And I don't think I can get outta bed

There's a sweet man I am lovin'
But I just can't, I just can't make it right
And when I wake up in the mornin'
I am blinded and I just can't stand the light

I've forgotten why I'm livin'
Shoulda tied a string around my finger
And it's about time to be leavin'
But I don't know, I don't know where to go

42. here's one I heard one time I got the rotation of songs from the radio:
Plus I'm not an Alice Cooper fan, either but it's a song that goes "
I wanna be elected!"
It's just energetic and funny to me because I perceive myself as a politically aware person and that song amuses me.
That's my 2 cents.

43. daydream believer
Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o'clock alarm would never ring.
But it rings and I rise,
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

You once thought of me
As a white knight on a steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend.
But how much, baby, do we really need.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

and I don't want to spend all my life , just in waiting for you
now I don't want u back for the weekend
not back for a day , no no no

55. Gave up on radio alarms
One morning for some perverse reason the radio station played Elvis singing what sounded like a lullaby. I started to drift back to sleep. I prefer a mild beep. Unless the neighbors have been noisy and I have the fan roaring by my head to drown them out with very white noise. Then my back-up alarm has an even louder beep.
