How do you make animated .gif's?

Is there any freeware or shareware to take a couple/few pics and make an animated .gif out of them?

2. I made my first gif with unfreeze...

It's free and really easy. I used gif photos to make it. Ulead is good for more hi-tech work, but all I needed was something basic. This is what I made:
