1. You like chanting, don't you?
;)

you mentioned in one of last night's threads about the monks chanting with the sand mandalas....

Have you done much Gregorian chanting, yourself? I suppose it would be quite meditative...

3. I have to admit, they can be meditative
I don't do it myself. Wrong acoustics here. I guess you need a monastery...

7. I've had little success in copying such links
Usually when I open them they open in a pop-up, so there's no link.

8. just copy the link itself on the page
where it says "monk.wav" - it's a direct link.
Your real player should pop up.

4. When done well there's nothing quite so wonderful
But it is often massacred when sung by the major English choral foundations because they're too used to the greater formalism of Anglican chant.

The Dies Irae melody is also incredibly haunting - though of course it's not technically Gregorian chant, because it was written by Thomas of Celano who was long after Pope Gregory the Great. But that's just me being pernickety.

6. We are singing the same lyrics, but Mozart wrote the tune!
The Mozart Requiem, of course.

A real blaster of piece, very un-Gregorian.
