Yes, go see Brokeback Mountain.
It is an absolutely marvelous film.

I just got home and I am still just amazed by how good it is.

Between this movie and Al Gore's speech. I had a great day. :)

10. I was so thrilled when I saw that
The fundies and freepers probably had "code browns" over that.

12. I wish Michelle Williams had won
But that category had so many great woman. To quote a review I read, "She is a revelation." Way to go, Dawson's Creek girl!

22. Alma, although a bit manipulative, was also a victim of circumstances
And Williams was brilliant in making me very sad and sorry for her... because Ennis didn't give a damn about her at all -- not her job,m her happiness, her sexual satisfaction... that's not a condemnation of him, just another layer of why this situation was so tragic for everyone. When she sees them kissing, and when she finally let's it out at Thanksgiving... man. Whoever thought she would be so damned good? Better than most of the "A-List" actresses who make alot more money than she does.

24. We saw it Sunday in PEARL MISSISSIPPI! I couldn't believe it!
The most conservative, fundamentalist town in a very conservative state and they ran Brokeback! My guy and I went with 5 other friends (strength in numbers!) and it was truly amazing. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal have both earned major recognition from me in the future.

Glad you enjoyed it too.

13. Loved the acoustic riffs through it -- wonderful
THAT should have won, not yet another overblown John Williams score.

5. I completely agree...saw it today myself
I am still haunted by it five hours later...a truly moving, heartfelt and sad film. Watched the golden globes tonight and very pleased to see the film get the recognition it so richly deserves. It is now one of my all time faves. I'm still a little weepy, though ;( :)

17. It really haunts you, doesn't it?
I can't help but wonder how many other men are in relationships like that. It really makes me hate our culture.

I may go Thursday. Everyone who's seen it so far has said it's worth the $8.50 or so.

14. *SPOILER* The scene that clinched Hearh Ledger as a great
actor (imo) -- no, not the shirt scene, or the scenes with Jack's parents, although those come in second place. No, the scene where Ennis and Jack part after their summer on the mountain, and Ennis is like, whatever, bye. And Jack leaves.... then Ennis goes into the alley and half sobs and half vomits his pain and loneliness and sadness...

19. Oh yes that was so sad
but also the look on Jack's face as he drove away - that scene is in the previews. How touching.

20. i thought that was wonderful -- BUT
what did it for me was the way ledger held his mouth for the entire film -- that tight lipped expression -- that just wouldn't let words accidently slip out from between his lips.

it really changed his face -- of course he adopted an incredible physicallity for ennis -- the shuffling walk when he was alone, the relaxed ennis when he was with jack, etc.

21. No, I agree with that
Like, he was afraid if he relaxed, he would say something "bad" that would lead to something equally as bad. Both he and Jake did an awesome job, and major kudos for Michele Williams. I knew I would like the movie (Annie Proulx and Ang Lee were enough to know that), but it really blew me away. It was such a great character-driven movie, with some great, very subtle acting. Even more impressive since so much of the cast is relatively young.

23. Oh yes - his mouth
that pouting lip, the words you just knew he was dying to say. That was one of the best parts of the movie, watching Ledger's mouth.
