Gripe about coupons...
As a way of being frugal, I've used coupons for years. It must be done judiciously, because a lot of them are for totally overpriced, overprocessed and unncessary foos, but they can be a good way to save a couple bucks every week.

But in recent years, the supposed "discounts" conveyed by these coupons have gotten smaller and smaller in relation to the purchase price, and they often require you to buy 2, 3, 4, or even 5 of the item.

I'm looking at one now for best foods mayo, save 50 cants off of 2, 18 oz. or larger. First of all, I don't need two mayos croding my fridge, second, the second jar might be expired by the time I get to it.

I swear, I have actually seen coupons for 30 cents off on 4 cans of Del Monte beans. At only 7 cents per can off, it's still nowhere near as good a deal as the supermarket brand, and with beans, I honestly can't tell the difference.

5. If you're into this, good for you, but this is exactly what I'm griping...
...about. I don't want to buy in bulk or fill out forms and save UPCs. Saving and using the coupons is enough logistics for my grocery shopping.

I live in a small apartment in the city and don't have room for a lot of extra stores.

Thanks, though.

2. I just got $2 off a bag of Kitten Chow!
It was the BEST coupon I've ever seen...but you are right in that they seem to be getting less meaningful and more predatory for the unwary.

The ABSOLUTE WORST ones are those that require you to write away for a rebate...

Blame actuaries and risk managers, worldwide.

4. I rarely find a coupon I'd use
You're right, the store brand is usually better than using the coupon with a name brand.

Plus most of the shit in the Sunday circulars is just that-- junky stuff I never buy.

7. You have the same gripes I have
I rarely need multiple anything aexcept kleenex. I always check the store brand and other brands against the brand for which I have a coupon and I buy the best deal. Rebates sometimes are a joke too. Unless it's for a large amount, sometimes it's not worth wasting an envelope and stamp.

8. Oday, I did get a good one, though...
$2.00 on 16. oz jar of Ken's dressing. It was also on sale at Albertson's for $2.50, so I got it for $.50. Yay.

9. I've noticed the same things.
And what ever happened to double coupons?
As to the quantities: if it's a good deal, why not ask a friend to go in half w/ you? Use the coupon, split the cost, each of you gets a mayo in your cupboard.
