Hey - RevCheesehead - time to report on your Sunday sermon!
On what text(s) did you preach? What was your subject? What was your main point? Did you win?

9. ROFLMAO!

Actually, that's not too far off. I felt like I was speaking in tongues yesterday.

But the mutter, mutter, sputter was due to an unfortunate DU encounter with one of these:
(and not in the Lounge, OK?)

16. I guess I get thrown by the distinction of the word "winner"....
b/c doesn't it then automatically set up the duality of there having to be a "loser"? Is that REALLY the way the world works? I don't know...but I am attracted to the idea of stepping OUT of the trap of dualistic thinking, ie, "Us" vs. "Them", "Dems" vs "Repubs", "Straight" vs "Gay"...the list is endless....

Like you said, we're all just players in the game of life, doing the best we can in any given moment....some with more awareness than others, admitedly...but that doesn't necessarily make them evil or losers.

Hell, we all just make it up, anyway. :eyes: The bottom line is: we're all in this TOGETHER. The illusion of separation is just that....an illusion.
:grouphug:

It's - a whole new outlook on life! Yes! From this day forward, you will be walking around, sporting a positive, contagious energy! People will look at you and wonder what made that difference - and you will know, deep in your heart of hearts, that you, yes you are God's beloved child, with gifts and graces to be used in the world around you!

CONGRATULATIONS!! :party:O8)

23. Truthfully, I try to live EVERY day like that.
and, through my words and deeds, remind others to do it, too.

Sometimes, like everybody else, I have a shitty day and I forget my Connection and then others lift me up to remind ME.....that's how it works....we're ALL reflections of the Divine, afterall....

You are a bright spirit, too, my friend. Shine on.... O8)

yesterday my bulb went out. So I took a long nap; and first thing this morning, I changed the bulb. I got tired of cursing the darkness. :D

27. I love that: you "changed the bulb". Great image.
although I suppose "darkness" serves its purpose sometimes, too. It just depends...

in any case, a nap sounds lovely. I'm inspired.... :)

3. here is the full text of the sermon:
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

8. I went with OT & Gospel "call" stories.
Ever get a phone call and someone says "Hi, it's me" but you have no idea who that is? - that's Samuel.

Ever have someone relay a message to you, that you had to see something important? - that's Nathaniel.

Ever hear voices and believe it's the voice of God? - that's Pat Robertson.
(yes, I slammed him again)

God is calling and wants your attention. Are you listening? or simply dismissing the possibility? Listen closely - when you do, you will recognize the voice, the gnawing feeling in the back of your mind.

It's not about being called into the ordained ministry; but it IS about using the gifts you have been given FOR ministry - for the benefit of others.

It's not about speaking to others on God's behalf. (sorry, Pat)
It's not about advancing your own personal agenda.
It's not about politics, power, money, or the things the world lusts after.
It's about discernment: is this God, or is this just my own desire?

It's paying attention to your surroundings, the people in your life and in your community. It's about responding when someone is in need, literally being the hands and feet of Jesus in the world.

*************

I wasn't mentally in the game yesterday - but God used it, anyways, despite my feeble efforts.

I didn't win, but God did. O8)

Paying attention is what it's all about.... Remembering we are not alone, we are here to love, to serve and to wake up.

a sacred calling, indeed.

19. Here is the affirmation from our church service, yesterday. You'll love it
It is my intent to be the all that I am ordained to be.

My life is filled with meaning and purpose.

I look beyond appearances to the underlying Truth.

I am not dissuaded by facts or conditions.

I use my creative energy to set new causations into motion.

I am never stuck with the by-products of the past.

I have the courage to live my vision.

I have the tenacity to remain steady and steadfast.

I am neither rattled by adversity nor prone to fear.

Every tribulation is a testimony in the making.

I triumph over lack and limitation.
O8)

21. That is powerful...
but if I were to use it, I would need to add some kind of God/trinitarian reference to the mix. Otherwise, it sounds a bit like a self-help book, to me. (no offense intended)

it's always about love!! :loveya:

btw -
I've told the kids in church that whenever they don't know the answer to a question I ask during children's time - or anytime - chances are that the answer is Jesus (or God). They catch on quickly, those buggers. :)

Your friendship and support are true examples of the love, no sermons are necessary.

And I am blessed that you get it so easily, as are many here. :loveya:

33. I'll tell my daughter that one.
She can chime in w/ that one at next service. She's the one child that always has the interesting answers at children's church. She's also the little girl whom (it never fails) has to bend over and show the world her panties.

35. LOL
I remember overhearing a father tell his twin girls how to behave in church while singing in the children's choir:
"Yeah, Dad, we know, stand up straight, pay attention, sing out loudly."
"And what else?"
"we never, ever pull our dresses up over our heads."

Every time they sing I always pray that she remembers to put her hands nowhere near the hem of her dress and that she keeps her fingers out of her nose.
