5. I'm young...I worship Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band
Of course not all Don Van Vliet's albums are brilliant, but the one's that are brilliant are fab.

Probably my favorite Captain Beefheart tune is "Big-Eyed Beans From Venus" off "Clear Spot".

Here's an excellant Captain Beefheart website:

http://www.beefheart.com/index.html

Here's Don Van Vliet with my adored John Peel.

7. Sun zoom spark, Capt...
Nothing makes it move
From the bottom to the top
Does it start at the bottom?
Or does it start at the top

Magnet draw day from dark
Sun zoom spark
Sun zoom spark

Now which hand's got it?
Bottom, or the top?
Neither hand's got it
It's just got it
Hope it don't stop

Magnet draw day from dark
Sun zoom spark
Sun zoom spark

Think you can uh hold it
Once it start
I don't care who ya are or what
size ya are
I'm gonna magnetize ya

Magnet draw day from dark
Sun zoom spark
Sun zoom spark

Ohh, don't let it get away
I'm gonna zip up my guitar
'n then when I've gone too far
I'm gonna zip down my guitar

Magnet draw day from dark
Sun zoom spark
Sun zoom spark

B-)

8. What about the Entertainment Forum instead of moving to the Lounge?
I think this thread will be moved from GD...I think it would be better in the Entertainment Forum...this thread will certainly die in the Lounge.

9. "die in the Lounge"
That's why I posted here.

Beefheart is social/political, hope mods see that and do not move.

Feel free to cross-post in entertainment, cross link.

17. Well
I agree :) I was just saying that in case the moderators do move this thread, then please don't put the thread in the Lounge...but instead put the thread in the Entertainment Forum.

Hardly anyone in the Lounge will give a shit about Don Van Vliet...but the Entertainment Forum will have heard of Don Van Vliet.

he was ill with MS or something.
I hope that is not true. I haven't kept up with what he has been doing. I imagine he still lives in the desert with his wife.

The Smithsonian Institute Blues (Or The Big Dig)

Originally appeared on Lick My Decals Off, Baby

Come on down t' the big dig
Come on t' the big dig
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues
The way it's goin' La Brea tar pits
I know you just can't lose
The new dinosaur is walkin' in the old one's shoes
Come on down t' the big dig
Can't get around the big dig
This may be premature but if I'm wrong
You can just say it's the first time I was happy t' be confused
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues
Alll you new dinosaurs
Now it's up t' you t' choose
It sure looks funny for a new dinosaur
T' be in an old dinosaur's shoes
Dina Shore's shoes

C'mon down to the big dig
You can't get around the big dig
C'mon to the big dig
Ya can't get around the big dig
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues

14. The drazy hoops! The drazy hoops!
They're camp! They're camp!
Tits! Tits! The blimp! The blimp!
The mother ship! The mother ship!
The brothers hid under their hood
From the blimp! The blimp!...
The drazy hoops whir
You can see them just as they were
All the people stir
'n the girls' knees tremble
'n run 'n wave their hands
'n run their hands over the blimp, the blimp
Daughter, don't ya dare!
Oh momma, who cares!
It's the blimp! It's the blimp!

21. Pappy with a khaki sweatband, a bowed goat potbelly barnyard
that only he noticed. The old fart was smart.

I cannot recite one line of Shakespeare, but I know by heart every word to every song Captain Beefheart recorded, and that is the highest praise I can offer.

You will always be in my soul and in my heart. Happy Birthday Dear Captain!

26. "My Human Gets Me Blues"
The captain second only to Zappa in my book

saw yuh baby dancin' in yer x'ray gingham dress
I knew you were under duress
I knew you under yer dress
Just keep comin' Jesus
Yer the best dressed
You look dandy in the sky but you don't scare me
Cause I got you here in my eye
In this lifetime you got 'mhumangetsmeblues
With yer jaw hangin' slack 'n yer hair's curlin'
Like an ole navy fork stickin' in the sunset
The way you were dancins I knew youwd never come back
You were strainin 't' keep yer'
Old black cracked patent shoes
In this lifetime you got m'humangetsmeblues
Well the way you'd been ole lady
I could see the fear in yer windows
Under yer furry crawlin' brow
Uh silver bow rings up in inches
You were afraid you'd be the devils red wife
But it's alright God dug yer dance
'n would have you young 'n in his harum
Dress you the way he wants cause he never had uh doll
Cause everybody made him uh boy
'n God didn't think t' ask his preference
You can bring yer dress 'n yer favorite dog
'n yer husbands cane
'n yer old spotted hog
Cause in this lifetime
You've got m'humangetsmeblues
