Poll question: What are you packing?

Chime in, home defenders and sporting enthusiasts! To avoid controversy, I left out the "guns are bad" choice....

53. For me it's a hand and a halfer
For anybody larger than me (I'm all of 5' 3" if I stand up really straight and fluff my hair a bit) it'd be a short sword. It's not the best quality but the balance isn't too bad.

57. speaking for myself,
I enjoy target shooting, for one thing. I don't hunt (or even eat meat, but let's not get started on that one...), and I don't carry any kind of weapon on a daily basis myself. I am a pacifist. But I do enjoy shooting.

Now, I'll agree that there's nothing amusing about some of the common applications of guns (murder, robbery, war, etc.).

On the other hand: Tesla Death Ray! :D

60. You're the one with issues
You can't seem to allow other people their rights, like an overprotective mom preventing her son from playing football with the other kids because it's "too violent". So some people who happen to be Democrats, responsible, productive members of society also happen to be gun owners. If we as a party want to win back males in the south and south-west who usually stand for our issues, then you better let go of the gun banning flag. It pisses some people off when other people think they can decide who gets to have certain rights.

32. I shot the M-14 in competition...
as a teen. Sweet, but the Garand was the best balanced in the standing position. That was the time I realized that the NRA had NOTHING to do with shooting. It took my Dad a lot longer and it distanced us. I rebelled against him making me into a competitive shooter.

He taught gun safety classes and that was how I convinced him that owning a weapon is serious and not just a right; it had to be privelige, earned and achieved. :)

He agrees now...but he is still a life member. :(

My unit had a few in the armory and I had a couple of opportunity's to fire it- full auto. Unless you were prone a full auto m14 is worthless after the first three rounds. (unless you are duck hunting)
Don't ask my opinion of the m-16 (POS).

24. An actual, working light saber.
Really. No shit. I mean it. For real.

Actually not 'packing', but I have the following.

Single-six, stainless, 6.5" target barrel, moveable sights. Old style single-action revolver with modern safety features and Hogue rubber grip, 0.22LR/WMR.

Berretta 84F Cheetah, nickle plated with walnut grips, 13-rd magazines, 0.380. I suppose if I ever had to 'pack', it would be that.

Ruger P-95, polymer grip, 9mm Para., AWB-era magazines. Spongy recoil spring. Impulse buy because it was cheap. Probably not the smartest thing I ever did.

S&W 686, 7-shot, 4" barrel, stainless, 0.357 Mag./0.38 Sp. Hand cannon, modern double-action revolver. Find it hard to control with 0.357. Plus, that round is so fast that it is not a good choice for home defense. Not only will you be deafened by the noise, but the round might go right through the wall and kill your neighbor. I bought it because I was sick of cleaning the automatics and hunting around for all the ejected cases.

Ruger 10/22 Deluxe Sporter, walnut checkered stock, fire sights. 10 rd. rotary magazine that is flush with the stock. Accurate and reliable, but a bear to clean. 0.22LR, automatic.

Winchester 9422 Legacy. Lever action 0.22S/L/LR I saw it used and bought it on impulse. Lever action is cleaner and shoots a wider variety of cartridges than the fincky 10/22 auto. 22" barrel, aperature sight, checkered walnut stock and fore end. Pistol grip.

Marlin 1894C. Side ejection, lever action 0.357 carbine. 18.5" barrel. Carbine adds 200 fps over revolver speed.

76. MX Missile
I bought it when Reagan was cranking 'em out like hotcakes and the NRA wackos were arguing that the 2nd Ammendment applied to ANY arms.

After 25 fucking days of rain, I think the silo's flooded though. Sure hope the control panel doesn't short out and launch that motherfucker.

82. A Samsung VI660
When in range it packs a mighty punch. All I need to hit is the 9 key, the 1 key twice and then the "OK" key.

I then get a squad of artillery on my doorstep in a few minutes.

89. Is this a serious query?
If so, for home defense, where's the .410 Snake Charmer? Breech loading single shot. Short barrel. Hellacious wallop. Little rish of wall penetration. Deadly force point blank. (Most shootings take place w/in three feet.

Guns aren't safe, by definition. But guns kept for home def. vary in their potential for unintended lethality.
