Another "OMG!" picture from the Hubble space telescope
The .jpg picture alone is about 2.5 megs, so on dialup it would take a while.
But talk about incredible, and truly lovely.

3. wow. how old is the Hubble?
you would think we could make computers that don't crash due to a pic download if we could make the Hubble so many years ago and it still works so well.

mine didn't crash, btw, the beauty of cable... absolutely gorgeous photo. I'd like to have that blown up and superglued to my ceiling.

4. Oh. My. Dog.
That that occurred naturally is beyond my capacity to process. I almost can't believe it's not a painting.

Incredible.

6. No
I can't.

I've never been able to get my head around concepts such as eternity or infinity, and I struggle with things of immense size.

Last night I was reading about the Hindenburg, and I thought, 802 feet long — it'd need three football fields to land on. And the bloody thing flew.

I really wish I could've seen it.

9. If you really want to wrap your mind around something impossibly vast,
just realize that that Hubble pic is only showing one tiny (relatively speaking) part of our own milky way galaxy. That is just one nebulae amongst millions. Then extrapolate from there and count the number of galaxies that we can see......the numbers just go on and on and on.

11. Hubble doesn't do anything worthwhile.
It's old and should be scrapped. :sarcasm:

12. They're actually building a new and improved
deep space telescope that will be able to see much more than Hubble. I'd only be okay with scrapping Hubble if they could get that new baby up there.

15. The James Webb Space Telescope will "see" primarily in the infrared.
Good for research, but it will only have "some capability in the visible range." Don't expect a launch before 2013.

The Hubble will probably come down in 2010.

18. Ah, see I was unaware that it was basically only infrared.
I heard people gushing about the infrared, but they didn't say it wouldn't be able to get a normal view as well. x(

When I downloaded it, it had the exact same file name as a pic of my nephew. I had to change the file name.

No matter. That's truly awe-inspiring.

I feel very small right now.
