Cape Town - The Sprinboks' "Kamp Staaldraad" (Camp Steel Wire) is making world-wide headlines, with words like bizarre and barbaric used to describe the camp.
On Monday, Britain's BBC reported on sports minister Ngconde Balfour's request for urgent talks with rugby chiefs over the camp, while Australia's The Age newspaper and New Zealand's Otago Daily Times carried stories on a reported request by the South Africa Rugby Players' Association (Sarpa) for an inquiry into the camp.
Another story on The Age was headed: "Springboks bizarre cup preparation laid bare" while News Limited's news.com.au website simply headed their article "Training Bok naked".
The Guardian newspaper on Saturday carried a report on a front page picture published in The Star newspaper in Johannesburg, showing naked Boks packed together in a dark pit, "holding rugby balls or billy cans to preserve their modesty".
The Guardian report made mention of an anonymous Springbok saying that they were sworn to secrecy over the camp.
"I can tell you one or two incidents that I think are shocking, but when (Rudolph) Straeuli (the Bok coach) is fired I will tell you all about it," a player who wished to remain anonymous told The Guardian.
"Any guy who speaks will find himself with a problem and he will have to go and play in France or something."...
