Technical question re, cable modem
I'm going to a high speed cable connection, I've ordered a broadband wi-fi router and pci card for the other desktop. Do I also need a cable modem or will the LINKSYS router satisfy this function?
Thanks in advance Bill.:argh:

1. You'll still need a modem...the cable company should provide one.

2. You'll still need the modem
The modem will hook up to the router and from there you'll be able to connect via wi-fi.

Good luck!:hi:

5. A few comments
Go to http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all
and find the forum for your cable company
You'll see a discussion of what kind of modems people are using etc.
You'll also see discussion forums for various modem manufacturers.
I haven't checked in a while, but Motorola used to be the best.
Note that dslreports.com is also known as broadbandreports.com

Your cable company website should have a list of compatible modems.

There are combo units with modem and wi-fi router,
I think it's better to have seperate units.
