Someone keeps propping open securty doors at night in my apt building...

Sometimes some cardboard or a pebble is wedged in the lock. I keep locking them at all times of the night. My management company does nothing. It's been happening ver since they rekeyed the common locks. I think its the creepy tenants two doors down. They have this sqautter, carny vibe to them.

1. Can you get management to post a notice?

It is definitely a security violation to prop open doors.

Unfortunately, unless you catch somebody doing it, you can't prove anything. But I would suggest alerting the management in writing and suggest they post a notice. Sometimes management will send out a notice to each individual apartment. They've done that in my building.

If you want them to know you're serious, type the letter up nicely and mail it. If you get no response, send another copy return reciept requested with signature confirmation.

9. Yup and I caught one of em red handed. My resolution is 06 was to not

take any shit. So I asked him straight out if he's been propping the door open. He said no. I smiled suspiciously and told him it pisses me off to fork out 100 for a new entrance key if the doors were going to be left open. It's funny but a wuss like me is probably the toughest guy in a my building.

8. Ask management to post a sign

The sign should say that the door may be monitored by video camera and violations could lead to some sort of consequence.

You shouldn't have to be the hall monitor. If your landlord won't enforce the rules, you might want to talk to a legal service about ending the lease early or moving.

10. I would end my lease but its hard to find a dog friendly building.

Plus i am already 1/2 through a one year lease. The whole problem is some of the absentee owners who just dont care. I think they are running the buildnig into the ground just so they can gobble up the condo units, do a big remodel and jack up the price. The neighborhood has gotten hot.

And the management company would probably charge five hundred dollars to post signs. They are crooks and full of crap. Oh.... but they have a real nice website.

11. CALL THE COPS !!! someone's trying to set something up

..might be a robbery at YOUR place.. At the very least, they are stealing the security that people pay extra for..

The cops might patrol by there more often if they think something's going on..They migth catch a crook in the process or just a boyfriend sneaking in, but there's no security at all if the doors are propped open.
