What new-ish movie should I rent for tonight?
I got a DVD player for Christmas and want to rent a couple of DVDs. The only movie I have seen in the last year (at a cinema) is Good Night and Good Luck. Any suggestions for rentals?

thanks

5. I think The Constant Gardener is out this week.
It's a must-see for DUers: an international thriller based on a novel by John LeCarre, with an excellent cast and stunning cinematography.

10. The themes...
...are globalization, corporate greed, exploitation of the poor and dispossessed, activism versus passivity, etc. However, it is also a love story, very much a love story.

7. War of the worlds.
I know it isn't a deep plot but it is a good one.
Shawn of the dead was funny (a paradoy of Dawn of the dead).

9. "Cinderella Man" is a good bet
It's a story of Jim Braddock, heavyweight boxing champion. He beat Max Baer for the heavyweight title.

It's stars Russell Crowe, Renee Zellwegger and Paul Giamatti. And it's directed by Ron Howard.

Nice, underratted movie.

11. If your up for a very powerful drama - "Mysterious Skin"
which is amazing, especially the central performance from Joseph Gordon-Levitt. IMO it's the best film of 2005.

On a lighter side, "The 40 Year Old Virgin" is really good. John Waters latest - "A Dirty Shame" is also brilliantly funny (although you may have trouble getting the uncut version).

16. Batman Begins is very good.
If you haven't seen it yet.

Makes Bruce Wayne into a Hamlet type figure. There's also a nice underlying theme concerning violence and crime, and how far to go to fight it. It's a mature version of the Batman story, with excellent acting and directing, and a lot of story to go with the FX, but enough comic book stuff to appeal on that level. Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Rutger Hauer.
