Speaking of driving on no sleep...
I meant to post this before Christmas...

My brother, who's been out of a regular job for 5 years, does freelance delivery work for a company that often does biz with the White House, among other places. The pay is not great, and they don't take any taxes out; but my bro likes the flexible schedule he can keep so he can work with his Top 40 band on the side. Besides, he loves the Dumbyass misadministration, and gets a kick out of hauling their stuff around on a regular basis.

Right before Christmas, I called to invite him over for the holidays, and he sounded awful! It seems he'd just gotten back from a round trip to Buffalo, NY (we're in the DC area), and right before that he'd done a round trip to Nashville, TN. He had 30 minutes of sleep in-between runs.

Now I'm pissed as hell. It's bad enough that he's taking his life in his hands driving on next to no sleep; but that kind of thing puts me and you and everybody we love in danger as well. While I think the guy that owns the company is stupid for asking my bro to take on that kind of driving load, I can't help thinking the ultimate responsibility lies with my brother, who accepts the gigs when he doesn't have to.

I don't want to see him out of work he desperately needs; but I don't want to see him or anybody else killed as a result of such negligence.

What would you do?

2. Unfortunately I don't see there's much you can do.
I've learned that people like that don't listen until something bad happens, like an accident or a heart attack. This company's insurance carrier should be raising a stink if they'd get word that drivers are being made to work like this.

3. Frankly, it's such a fly-by-night operation
that I wonder if they even have insurance. I suspect there may be a number of illegals working for them.

4. Well one could tip the INS to that.
But he'd lose the job. Then he'd probably do the same thing with another company. Trucking Cos. just seem to thrive on killer work schedules like that. Not all, but a fair #.
