but it was something like this..

Dumplings:
1-1/2 c flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp MSG
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp shortening
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 c broth
1/2 c milk
paprika

Broth:
minced onion and carrots
1/2 c peas
a clove of garlic
a can of chicken broth
some milk
some black pepper
butter and flour for thickening

Chicken breasts, cut up, floured, seasoned and cooked quickly in olive oil

Throw it all in a pot, cook for 5 minutes uncovered, then for 10-15 more covered. Enjoy!

8. I was raised on Chicken and dumplings!
I like this:

Broth:
minced onion and carrots
1/2 c peas
a clove of garlic
a can of chicken broth
some milk
some black pepper
butter and flour for thickening
Chicken breasts, cut up, floured, seasoned and cooked quickly in olive oil

But for a short cut, you can use biscuits in the can/roll. Just drop them in the pot! I love doing it from scratch but if I'm pressed for time I just use the canned biscuits and they taste very good.

Thanks!

11. I used to use Bisquick for the dumpling part
No more, it takes about 2 minutes longer to make them with flour/baking powder/shortening. It's cheaper too. I hate bisquick because the leftovers seem to go south really quickly.

I am the chicken and dumpling queen, thank you!
j/k...LOL...glad your's turned out good.

I make it all by scratch, no recipe...just followed the way my granny used to make them.

There is nothing more soothing when the world gets you down than to cook up a batch and nest inside--just yourself and chicken and dumplins.

yummy

5. "I used to"
Been a vegetarian since the war. I can still imagine the delicious aroma, though. Roast turkey and grilled salmon were the hardest to quit.

7. The biggest regret
The biggest regret in my life is no finding a woman who can make a great dumpling.

While I normally say the secret to happiness is a great green sauce certainly good dumplings are almost the equal.

9. I use my Grandmother's recipe, except use Bisquick for the dumplings.
Don't have my recipe with me, but basically, you start with a cut up stewing chicken, or a package of chicken breasts and one of drumsticks. (Leave the skin on, it adds flavor) Place in a shallow pan large enough that you have a single layer of chicken. Cover with water. Add a couple of peeled carrots, several stalks of celery (with the leaves still on), two bay leaves, six or more peppercorns, one peeled onion and one or two teaspoons of salt. Bring to a boil on top of stove, then reduce heat, cover and simmer until the meat is falling off the bones. About 20 minutes before you're ready to eat, take everything out of the pan except the water - which is now a very thin but rich broth. Mix dumplings as per recipe on Bisquick box. Bring broth to a boil, and add dumplings using a tablespoon. Cover to cook for ten minutes, then uncover to cook another ten minutes. I serve it out of a beautiful old Victorian serving bowl which is one of the few things I have which belonged to my Grandma, and which she used for Sunday dinner. Tradition and mouthwatering food - my favorite meal!
