4. Hahaha
Might be my South Carolina wife married me to get away from 'Hoppin John'. He will not be visiting this house to day.

But as a little boy in Alabama and Tennessee before WW2 I be recalling 'Hoppin John' was food frequently and often.

I like it. Sorghum too on hot scratch biscuits with real butter. Melting.

5. I once took a bowl of my Hopping John to a Friend's house...
She is a sweet Louisiana Lady from a wealthy family, but she is very down to earth. She tried a spoon of mine then declared her own was going to the dogs! Everyone enjoyed it. I make it with plenty of spicy pan sausage added to the peas, onions, tomatoes, peppers, and rice.

7. I'd rather they taste good, Pard. I use fresh peas if I can find them...
and use bay leaves, garlic, and dress them up good. Rotel is good in them, too. Hoppin John and a skillet of corn bread is a complete meal for me.

9. Yes dried peas
are necessary. I just asked my wife if she was going to fix 'Hoppin John'.

"NO"

She said.

8. As well you know,
eating Hoppin' John on New Year's Eve is supposed to bring good luck in the new year. Speaking from experience, it doesn't work. And btw, my Hoppin' John tastes excellent!
