Post your pet's photo
I don't have a pet but I've been at my mother's house all week hanging out with her Cocker Spaniel puppy. I must say we've grown quite attached this past week, I'll be sad to leave her when I go back home.

Here's a picture of her a few months ago

and here's a picture of her sitting on my lap looking like an idiot the other day

Now it's your turn DU!

40. Here:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=1475&N=2002+2032+2008

The one shown here is a new model, a little fancier and a few $$ more than Milo's. But he loves his bed. We live in Minnesota, in an old drafty house, and the bed keeps his furry little butt warm when he can't snuggle up to me. It doesn't heat unless there's a cat in it -- a weight-activated switch turns it on, and then it heats up to a cat's body temperature.

91. He's a Skye Terrier.
http://www.akc.org/breeds/skye_terrier/index.cfm

The majority of terriers have attained something of their present-day form within the last century, but the Skye Terrier of nearly four centuries ago was like the specimens of today.

Thus we find the Skye Terrier of today. His flowing coat is the same as the one that proved such a grand protection in the days when his only occupation was to challenge vicious animals that otherwise might have crippled him at a single bite. Perhaps this long coat has been a handicap, for all followers of this game old working terrier have witnessed him surpassed in popularity by one after another of the newer breeds. Still they are reluctant to change him in any manner.

The breed takes its name from the chief of those northwestern islands of Scotland that, as far back as he can be traced, formed his native home, and in which he was found in greatest perfection. He is the only terrier distinctively belonging to the northwestern islands that is not common to the whole of Scotland. Those who have the best practical knowledge of the Skye maintain that he is without rival in his own peculiar domain, and that wherever there are rocks, dens, burrow, cairns, or coverts to explore, or waters to take to, his services should be called.

The Skye was the most widely known of all the terriers down to the end of the 19th century. Queen Victoria's early interest and Sir Edwin Landseer's paintings featuring the breed helped attract attention. He was kept in all the English-speaking countries. Since then he has slipped quietly into the background, yet his admirers in England and Scotland - where he has maintained his greatest foothold - are happy to point to the time when "a duchess would almost be ashamed to be seen in the park unaccompanied by her long-coated Skye."

she likes em with a little life in em so she can evilly pluck wings off or otherwise eviscerate them.

But just insects. She's an indoor cat, so she can't kill much.

Her favorite pastime lately has been watching the falling leaves from the office window and starting every time one falls.

"WOH! There's another one! Hey! One over there! LOOK! Another leaf!"

She stands in front of the window in the morning glaring at us until someone opens the blinds.

She is sort of neurotic, but we also had one of her sisters, a dog by the same sire, and she was downright mental. However, I don't think I will ever own a different dog. I love these Belgian Malinois. They are smart beyond belief and very loving, (also protective.)

87. Gorgeous.
I did a lot of studying breeds before we got Fargo. We wanted a watchdog, but something friendly.

I love Goldens, which wasn't really in the same ballpark, but I love their pretty faces. And then I read that Pyrs are good watchdoogs because of the breeding, and make good latch key dogs. They're very independent-- they can handle being left alone all day while their owners are at work.

And he can do that, with only the occasional shredding of a roll of toilet paper. (Northern is his favorite!)

But MAN-- anyone gets near our front walk, sidewalk, driveway...if he even hears a noise he thinks might be strangers, he LOSES it. When the UPS guy brings us a package during the day or the Chinese deliveryman brings us dinner, he literally BODY SLAMS himself at the door. Scares the crap out of everybody. But he's really a big sweetheart.

So I got a pretty, "vicious" boy. :D

103. What kind of cats
are they, and how old? How long does it take for hair? The ears are quite remarkable.

Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 02:47 PM by bettyellen
a farm in cornwall, GB, in the fifties. normal cats have three kinds of hair, and they have only one kind- the downy undercoat. and their hair is curly, including the whiskers. it's common when they give birth, as my girls did sometime this spring, to lose their hair for a while. i got them in the beginning of september and only their chests and legs had enough hair length to be wavy, but they still felt downy soft. it's been coming in slowly and is finally showing a slight wave on their backs. they are very smart, agile and quite active and very attached to their humans. they love to get under the covers with you because they lack that extra insulation other cats have. also, they don't seem to have any dander and don't shed at all, which is what interested me because i do have allergies and hate vacuming and cat hair everywhere.
they are still rare enough to be pretty expensive, and you have to wait 6 month to adopt because the breeder will wait to see if it'll be a champion show quality cat. i got mine from a rescue in tenessee (through a search on Petfinder) who knew of a breeder dumping 5 of them, my two were said to be bad mommas.
here are some pics to show you better the coat and the cute little alien faces common to the breed. they come in pretty much all colors as they were mixed in with other types to spread the gene. my Caindy has about as much coat as the kitten on the bottom now, it's starting to look like swirly brushstrokes.

www. rexphiles.com has rescues available and more info and of course www.petfinder is great for finding all sorts of animals that need a home.

106. Those ears still get me!
Thanks for posting the info about them. I will keep an eye out in my area for them--not to get one, since my Daisy has a strong prey instinct, but just to see one. Happy New Year!

51. Awwww.... she's BEAUTIFUL!!!
I love Cocker Spaniel Parti-varieties! Here are mine:

Libby

Emma

I adopted both of them from Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Houston, and just love them to bits! I don't have children, so they are both spoiled rotten, as they should be. They don't know they are dogs. Libby loves to sing to opera, and Emma is showing her age a little bit, and just loves to snuggle.

56. Pretty nervy actually
Turkey is pretty nervy most of the time. HATES ME with a passion. Not fond of him myself...he's my mom's bird and he was jealous of me ever since my parents brought me home from the hospital. He's pretty talkative, and is really good at making appropriate sounds depending on the converstation at hand (for instance: whenever my parents argue, he sits on top of his cage and shouts "OH JOY!" Smartass. He also laughs when we do and has a particular noise we interpret as "Thank You" when we give him peanuts) He sees my mom as his mate...he's very affectionate to her, and somewhat protective. He tends to try to explore the downstairs as well, which is a problem with four 100lb dogs afoot. I suppose he's a good bird...I'm just not a bird person.

54. Our four Berners
We have four Bernese Mountain Dogs (3 girls and a foster boy who will probably end up staying here). Collective weight is about 400 lbs. They're my mom's babies, but as long as I live at home, they're mine too ;-)

(l-r) Talley (4), Sera (3), Baker the foster boy (3), and Audie (2)

I also have a Border Collie mix, Abbey, with my boyfriend (Abbey lives with me until I can move out)

108. Guinness is a beauty, for sure.
I like the ides of the no-kill shelter too. AHS has been around for decades, they are non-profit, they house all manner of animals indefinitely, even the sick and terminally ill. They also do a lot of rescue work, like in the hurricane zones. I have a very high opinion of them.

97. A Tale of Two Cities
My daughter found Otis in a cat carrier in a Philadelphia parking lot. The note identified him as a year-old male did not offer a reason for abandoning him like that. We speculate that the reason could be that he gets very demanding at times. He's noisy.

The Otis saga continues - once homeless, he now lives part time with me and part time with my daughter. Otis has gotten quite used to living in two cities. It's perfectly normal! In his spare time, he looks out the window and his tail twitches when he sees a bird.
