Some nights, my allergy medicine is enough.

2. Other - acetaminophen with an opiate
I didn't realize what a poor sleeper I was until my specialist gave me these for pain. Nine months later I'm wondering just how hard these are going to be to give up when I'm not having any more pain...

17. Trazodone and Ambien for me
Ambien to knock me out, Trazodone to keep me knocked out. A potent 1-2 punch.

An interesting side effect: I usually forget the last 1/2 hour of consciousness and once in a while post some wierd shit on DU. Like right now, for example :P.

9. Not Specifically To Sleep, But I Can't If I Skip It
I take Elavil to help prevent migraines, and while it doesn't knock me out by any means, if I skip it, it makes it hard for me to sleep.

I wear a CPAP to help me sleep, or rather, to keep me breathing while I sleep. My apnea is severe enough that I can't sleep very long without it.

10. I just kicked Atavan...
After two years of it.

I now sleep better without it, although I tend to dream more (or at least remember dreaming more).

How'd you do it? I've heard it's tough to kick after taking it long term.

12. my doctor...
I went from 1mg to 0.5mg for two weeks, then from 0.5 to 0.25 for two more weeks, then 0.125 for three weeks (when I ran out).

The 0.125 were basically crumbs, because even a razorblade wasn't sharp enough to cut 0.25s in half.

18. I don't normally need anything, but...
if I need to get to sleep and haven't been on a regular schedule, I'll take a melatonin just to help the process. I tend to be a night owl, but I need to be up at 5 these days. To do that, I must be in bed by 10. Later than that and I'm a crabby ass the next day. Gotta keep my temper when dealing with hs kids and not having enough sleep is the worst thing I can do.

It's so hard to get up in the morning when it's cold and I'm snuggled in bed with my puppy burrowed in on one side and Sam the monster cat purring in my ear.

Sigh -- gotta go back to work on Tuesday. It's been a great 2+ weeks off!

19. Imovane and tryptophan
The first to get me to sleep; the latter to keep me there.

I don't know if either is available in the US.

Between that, my hypnosis tapes, and my cats sleeping on me, I'm usually soothed off to sleep pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, I have to get phone calls from work 24/7 and be able to be immediately coherent at 3AM.

27. Herbal.
I can't sleep without a nice joint of some heavy indica/indica dom. A good indica like Black Dominia, or White Rhino/Medicine Man will settle my bones, and relax me enough to get some rest. Without it i can't sleep. Too much pain, and to many nightmares.
