Obviously, string players are at the top of the list, and percussionists - the good ones, anyway, such as Zappa's and the ones in the Steve Reich ensemble, etc. - are next.

But as my orchestra director used to say, "There are musicians, and then there are those who sing". And we all know that brass players, unless they've evolved to playing in an orchestra, or are playing free jazz or other high-level jazz form, are pretty low on the musician totem pole.

And then our choir teacher used to say, "Men and tenors", as in "Men, I need more from you; tenors, quiet down a little".

1. As a string player, I have to say
that generally speaking, we can't count worth a damn...Brass players have it all over us.

Many of the singers I've met have the same problem. I think it's because we never had to play band music.

2. Your choir teacher was an asshole. So was your orchestra director.
Singers are musicians.

3. It was all in good fun!
I am a singer as well, in fact, a tenor, so I'm at all ends of the spectrum.

5. I know, cutie.
Our director did that to us women (gay chorus) once: "ladies, I can't hear you - and altos . . . " -- but the closeted homophobe didn't get away with it. we reacted instantly, he turned bright red and apologized. HE was an asshole.

I have a lotta respect for brass players simply because they make it sound good and I could NEVER do it.

9. How about Charles Foster Kane's wife with a tambourine, a warbly voice
and an opera house of her own to sing in?

7. What's the difference between a drummer and a large pizza?
A pizza can feed a family of 4.

Drummers. Definitely!

13. Sid Vicious

Probably made a better noise smashing his bass into a Texas redneck's skull than he did when he actually tried to play the damned thing.
