This morning, I learned that cola doesn't keep.
Not in a cupboard for a year, anyway.

We had lots left over from our last holiday party, and nobody who lives here drinks the stuff anymore. So we decided to store it, thinking nothing canned could possibly go bad.

Not only did we have to throw every single can out (they'd gone past flat to anti-flat), but several of them were suspiciously light, and several more were very sticky on the bottom. Plus there was a hugh puddle of mold and rotten soda on the floor of the cupboard. The mold might have been less if we hadn't kept most of the cans in their original 2-4 boxes. We're going to have to partly dismantle the cupboards to bleach it all out.

:puke:

And that's how we learned the true meaning of buying in 6-packs.

1. Average shelf life for canned soda is six months
Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully the cleanup won't be more painful than it already is.

I think refrigerating canned soda makes them last a little longer, though. When in doubt, though, don't drink it.

2. Wow!
I've never had a problem like this with Soda storage...

Hmmm... I'll have to make a note not to try it.

3. Me neither. The things you learn on DU.
I might stick to the two litre bottles after reading that.

4. The funny part is, this happened last year, too.
Except that time, the cans had only been in storage for the 6 months since my sister's wedding, so all we had to deal with was one leaky can. We'd written it off as a fluke, until we opened the cupboard this morning to take inventory.
