Thanksgiving?
I was pondering what exactly this means.
Thankful for what has been given?
If it is an expression of gratitude, what is it directed to?
What has been given to me?
Automatically discount things of chance or luck.
Disregard things I have earned or worked for.
Whats left?

a few meaningless material possessions......
burdens of responsibilties.......
emotions of hate/apathy or love directed at me......

Thats all I can think of.

1. I cannot speak for anyone else,
but I have much to be thankful for.
The lump removed from my mom's breast is not cancer.
My husband is my best friend and he still makes me laugh daily.
My brother & his wife have their adopted son with them and he is happy and healthy.
I have good friends I can count on.
I am closer to my family than I have ever been.
We will be spending the holidays with family.
I found DU and it helps with my sanity.
I have a good job when so many others do not.
I bought some new shoes this weekend and they are very comfortable.

2. Liikewise, Rainbow
I'm with the person I love, in a comfortable environment. My neighbors are friends, and what family I have is close. I had parents that loved me, a close-knit family, a first class education, a satisfying career and live like a king compared to 98% of the people on earth.

Yes, I, for one, have much to be thankful for.

3. I am thankful that it is 68 degrees in the house at 7am
while it is 12 degrees outside.
I am thankful that I have a full-time job and do not worry about how to pay the monthly bills or where my next meal is coming from.

I am so thankful and feel so guilty that I am so warm and comfortable while the homeless man I had to roust out of the bushes at work last night has to worry about finding another "home site" in this 2-week old sub-freezing weather.

It is this time of year that I completely hate my job and it makes Thanksgiving such a guilt trip because I have so much and these poor sould have absolutely nothing.

Sorry to be so down, but it is wrong for this great nation to have to suffer the homeless/hunger problem this country has.

4. I am thankful that...........
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 11:19 AM by Cheswick
God has given me a voice to sing, that my children are happy and both healthy at the moment, that my oldest has shown great strength and wisdom for a 23 year old overcoming an almost insurmountable problem. I am thankful I have family to celebrate with and at least enough money to stay off the streets. I am thankful I have a car that runs and a places to go in it. I am thankful that in may I will finally graduate with a teaching degree and the chance at a more stable life. I am thankful to hear truly inspiring sermons on a weekly basis, sermons which make me think and reafirm my liberal leanings. I am thankful for the seasons, for the glory of the earth provided to me at no cost and for the brain to appreciate all that is around me.

I am thankful for the arts, great novels, movies and theatre, the symphony, ballet and all kinds of music. I am thankful to be a woman, the ability to bring life into the world and the choice of when and how I do it.
