Pro Activ: Does anyone use it?
I just wondered if anyone had experience with it. It's supposed to be really good for acne and breakouts.

3. I have never used it, but the active ingredients are supposed to be
benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. If your skin can tolerate both of those products, I'd use a BP product at night and a SA product in the morning (don't use them at the same time; they fight each other).

If you do try the ProActiv and like it, though, I'd be interested in hearing about it. My daughter always talks about trying it.

5. Ah... That might be my problem

I got the beginners kit..

I'd use a BP product at night and a SA product in the morning (don't use them at the same time; they fight each other).

And I did the full routine x2 day for three days. Guess what? I got a rash all over my face! :grr: It looks like a bumpy sunburn. I finally put some Benadryl on my face last night.

But for the brief time right after I used it, my face felt great. *Sigh* I hope my face clears up before Saturday.

edit: I should hasten to add this is what the instructions say. I think I will use less from now on, if I can get my regular skin tone back.

12. Try using it just at night at first.
Maybe twice a day is too much. Or just the toner alone?

15. I'm not sure if it's the toner
or the acne cream that you use after. Or possibly using the scrubber 2x day.

I think I will try once a day and see if that helps.

18. Is it an exfoliating scrub?
I would not use that twice a day. That sounds pretty harsh. Once a day or even every other day might be better. (Of course, I'm pretty cynical about this sort of thing - if you use it twice a day, you'll have to buy more all the sooner, which is what they want you to do!)

23. Yes, it is exfoliating
But it doesn't have that many "grits" in it as a regular microderm scrub or even St Ives Apricot scrub.

The lady told me the basic three bottles are supposed to last 2 months and the other stuff like the clay mask, about 6 months. But I'm thinking maybe longer for me.

26. I didn't have to use all of it as often as they recommended
and I got great results. Try using the cleanser every other day, toner everyday and the other stuff just right on a problem spot and see if that helps.

6. My 18-yr-old niece w/ scary acne uses it and it's working great.
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 11:15 AM by bertha katzenengel
I saw her in February and was horrified for her. Saw her again in October and she looked great. Again in November -- better still.

:hi: SN.

edit: I wish she could talk her 21-yr-old cousin into using it. His face is really bad. :(

10. I hope it will eventually work
:hi: Bertha

My face isn't that bad, but it's worse b/c I'm not on BC pills right now.

But I think I did it too much and my face has a rash now. See my not to LiW above. I'm gonna have to wait till this rash goes away to try again. I've never had a reaction like this.

Glad your niece likes it.

21. I had a terrible reaction to Olay Regenerist.
Many of my friends were using it and raving about it, so I gave it a try. At first, I thought the reaction was just my skin getting used to it, but it got worse. It left my face a raw, red mess. I went back to my regular Neutrogena products (anti-wrinkle anti-blemish cream and pore refining cream). It took three weeks to get my skin back to normal. I just use the Neutrogena now.

It's good stuff. Not harsh on your skin but gets the job done.

I recommend it.

16. That happened to me too
I think it's good for some people but not for me. I have really sensitive skin (with breakouts too - such fun).

Your face should settle down soon from the rash.

19. What do you use on your skin?
I've used other microdermabrasion sets and they worked just fine. But I used them about every 2-3 days, not every day.

I've used just plain glycerin soap to wash my face.

20. If it doesn't work after a while, you might want to try Burt's Bees...
I've tried so many products over the years, (although this wasn't one of them so take this for what it's worth) and they've never worked for me. Turns out I have really sensitive skin and the chemical stuff just seemed to make everything worse.

About a week ago I finally restocked my Burt's Bees stuff (cleanser, toner, moisturizer)after not having it for about a year and it's already showing a noticable difference. It's clearer, brighter, and ridiculously soft. And it's not too pricey either--I think the most expensive thing I bought was a night cream for $15. (I didn't really need it but it was my birthday recently so I bought it anyway for the heck of it).

Here's the website, if you're interested: http://www.burtsbees.com

Good luck--I know finding what works for you can be really frustrating.

I may try BBs next if I can't use the PA stuff w/o getting a rash.

I do like all their lotions and salves.

24. I recommend it...
I never had bad acne, but just always a pimple or two or three... persistent and annoying for a guy of 42. I'd tried a variety of drugstore potions without much luck.

Ordered the ProActiv, and within two weeks, no pimples. I use much less than the recommended even... basically use the face scrub when I shower in the morning, sometimes dab on the BP before bed if I see something flaring up. I'll use the green stuff if I feel I need to clean my face after a workout or something. I think I've had one pimple in December!

My suggestion: join the club, and get the starter kit with the three products, then suspend your membership, or postpone your next kit shipment for a while. Then, you can order the products individually, instead of getting a whole batch of everything every month. The website makes it pretty easy to customize what they ship you and when, so you can fit your budget and your particular cleansing requirements.

It's a little more expensive than the cheapest drugstore stuff, but about the same as the higher-end drugstore/beauty brands, and I'd say that it's been worth it for me. I like it so much, in fact, that I've risked alienating some friends/acquaintances by suggesting that they try it out. :)

Go for it! Tell them Gmoney and Puffy sent you. :)

29. Do you shave every day?
Some men, shaving creams and such irriate their skin. That happens to my brother. He prefers to wear a beard for that reason.

I'm glad you like it.
