I've stopped crying. Benny lives.
The worst is over for my Benny kitty. It has been such a roller coaster ride and I am finally winding down. He is sleeping on the couch next to me and looks fine. The vet was able to remove a two and a half inch sewing needle surgically by going through his ribs to his esophagus. It had started to puncture one of his lungs which was collapsing. He was able to save his lung and his breathing fine now.

Of course now he is trying to pull off bandages and you know just those bad chewing things that kitties do, but I think I have him under control.

I want to thank all you DU'ers for caring and sharing your own experiences. I wasn't able to answer each post, but I want you to know that they were greatly appreciated.

6. He swallowed it, but we don't know where he got it or why.
The curious part is that there was no thread attached, so it's kind of a mystery. It was an embroidery needle, which I don't do and I don't have in my sewing kit so we don't know where he got it unless it was in the trash.

15. All right Benny!
Cleita, in my original post to you, I commented on how tough and resilient these little guys can be.

Benny just solidified my belief even more. I hope he has a run-of-the-mill, uneventful recovery.

My best to you and Benny -- :toast:

18. Cleita that's fabulous!!!!
Like, the greatest news all day.
Isn't it just the best feeling to again
have him sleeping in his favorite spot,
when so recently you just didn't know
what would happen?

Kiss him on the nose for me!
And post a picture of the little guy if you can.

He's so lucky to have a mom who gets him good,
and no doubt *expensive* (ow) health care.

We need health ins for pets. Hell, a lot of us
can't even afford it for ourselves.
