Does Your Cat Want Lots Of Heavy Petting??
Is he/she waaaaay too lovey dovey?

Wherever I am, especially in a horizontal position, at least 5 or 6 times a day/night, "Mouse" will find me. If I'm laying down she'll get on my chest (and while standing) start the heavy purring and slobbering. (Yes she's that into it) I at least try to get her to sit down so 1)the slobber doesn't land on my face and 2)I won't have 16 lbs of cat digging into me via 4 sticks. If I succeed in getting her to sit, she'll still purr and do that "Kneeding" thing. I can take only about 20 minutes of that yet ALWAYS feel bad when I eventually push her away.

I always assumed that behavior would disappear when she got older. She's almost 14 now and I'm still waiting. Perhaps we need therapy. Ya think?

1. It is infantile behaviour, but
domestic cats and dogs actually never grow up, emotionally. They stay like children. That "kneading" action is something kittens do on their mother to stimulate lactation. My mum calls it "ponching."

Believe me, if your cat actually grew up, mentally, you would not want her around!

3. I call that "Marching to Zion."
Mostly because Oreo kneads rather hard, and damn, her aim is too good.

2. 2 of mine are really lap cats
Lily loves to be petted and brushed. Pad Thai will just sit on me for hours. He loves to sleep against me and cuddle. Mine don't knead much though. I've seen cats I thought that were taken from their mother too young do that, though.

Charley is not a lap cat, he's too busy running around for that. He stops for a pet now and then and he's on his way.

5. My little Theo was seriously high maintenance
If I wasn't standing, he was in my lap, or my arms, or trying to get there. And, just like yours, he drooled he was so needy. He also purred up a storm and recently had started doing the kneading thing.

My favorite thing though was how he used to like to touch my face. He would fall asleep in my arms but stretch his front legs out so that his paws were touching my face. He'd stay there until I moved him - 5 minutes or 5 hours.

Enjoy her quirky lovely-dovey-ness. You'll miss it when she's gone.

7. Ohhhhhhhh
I'm so sorry. :-(

And you're right; I know I will miss her when she's gone. I guess I should be thankful I still have her. I'll think of you and your "son" next time Mouse comes around.

8. Abbott insists on it and it makes him drool
so by the time he's bored I end up being covered in Cat Hair & Cat Drool plus my organs are crushed because he's a 16lb cat AND I probably pulled a muscle trying to pick him up from the floor (He can't jump on my lap when I'm in my computer chair because of the chair handles although he'll try)
