Take a class (ok, the paper made the title, I didn't mean to come off as a jerk quite so fast...)
Recent letters to the editor penned by Tom Nelson, Ralph Olsen, Esther Fishbaugh and others have claimed that there are serious scientific problems with evolutionary theory. They have challenged the Chronicle's readers to seek out the "truth," and visit various creationist Web sites. I have visited those web sites and they are, in a word, laughable.
I would, however, like to offer a challenge to those who doubt evolutionary theory. We are lucky enough to live in a town with a world-class natural history museum, a state university, and a huge population of paleontologists and paleontology students. Our university not only offers basic classes in geology and biology, but also classes in dinosaur paleontology, vertebrate paleontology, invertebrate paleontology, taphonomy, genetics, evolution, macroevolution, and sedimentary petrology. If you're truly interested in exploring what science has to say about evolutionary theory, please take advantage of the opportunities afforded to you, rather than simply relying on the biased, unscientific information you can find on the Internet.
