This is the way the Chicago Bears play football
They slapped the taste out of Ron Mexico's mouth.

And who wants to play them now?

1. Yeah, it was a good game tonight.
I especially loved the fans singing tonight in Soldier Field when Mora got the unsportsmanlike penalty. Too funny!!!

Now all they have to do is beat the Slackers next Sunday and the Vikings the following Sunday and I'll be a very happy camper...

BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS!!! BEAT THEM SLACKERS!!!!

10. Hmmm
Yes, a repeat of that year with a frightening D and an improving offense.

I mean, I'm not saying that the Bears will win it all, or even win one playoff game, but this is a different team than Jauron's team-- and if the offense can pull it together over the next two weeks, potentially dangerous in the playoffs.

39. I Don't Think So, Sniffa
The defense wasn't that good that year. Just lucky. A few bad bounces instead of lucky ones, and they would have been 8 - 8 that year. The only bad bounces this year have been ones the opposing QB's take when they hit the ground for the 19th time in a game. (Have we ever seen Mike Vick down on the ground this often in one game?)

Admittedly, the offense, under Orton has been one in which the Bears win IN SPITE OF, rather than because of. But, Grossman, all the way back in July when i went to Bears camp, is simply a better QB and better thrower. His return to health has buoyed my optimism.

While i don't think they're superbowl quality, their defense can make some people regret drawing them in the playoffs, and they could be better than they've been. In any case(!), this is not the same as the Jauron playoff team.

42. Just A Question
How would they have matched up if Kyle Orton wasn't horrible? I know one player isn't a team, but when it's the QB stinkin' up the joint, that's a pretty big problem! When he wasn't horrible, they handled the Panthers, Bucs, Vikes. And, the defense played their least effective game against Pittsburgh. When the QB makes it so the defense has to play perfectly, that's an even bigger problem.

Not fightin' with ya! Just sayin' But, as a lifelong Bear fan, i can guarantee you that this team is WAY better than that Jauron team that went to the playoffs and got waxed in the first round. They play with a fire that we haven't seen since the mid-80's. It's palpable, and a whole lot more fun.

3. Da Bearss
The defense is just frightening-- some of those hits were just bone jarring.
And now, with Grossman in there, we'll just have to see if we can get an offense to go with the D.
Great game, though, best this year, IMO.

5. I wasn't happy when they pulled Orton
after all, he's been QB through a number of wins...

But, when Grossman went in, the Bears actually PASSED the ball!

Hard to argue with that!

I wouldn't want them to abandon the run, of course, but having something of a passing game would be invaluable going into the playoffs. Teams have been having trouble with a Bears team with no passing game...add that in, and the Bears'll be tough to beat.

I also was NOT impressed with Orton's passing when he did throw...not much for accuracy, IMO.

7. I was
I was pumped to see Grossman getting ready to enter at the half. And right off, that ~20 yard strike to Muhammad, that was great. Grossman is such a better QB than Orton-- a much quicker release, more accurate throws, and he doesn't telegraph his intent like I think Orton does.

Thing is, they won't have to abandon the run because Grossman is in there-- the threat of the pass will make the run more effective, IMO.

9. I agree...
I don't think they SHOULD abandon the run, just saying that I hope they won't try to pass all the time, just because Grossman's a more competent passer.

I wasn't happy to see Grossman in originally, as Orton had been at QB through a really successful series of games...and I REALLY don't want to see a QB situation like we had a few years ago...where the coach kept switching QBs, I think it was Matthews and someone else.

That said, I think Grossman did a good job, and definitely came across as a better passer. Orton seemed to be really inaccurate. If Grossman is ready, and can do better, by all means, keep him in. Just don't switch back and forth.

13. Yes.
They can never go back to Orton ever again. You have that right. It's Grossman or bust, and I think (or hope?) they know that.

I have always thought that Orton got too much credit for that string of wins. I think the defense and field goal kicker won all those games. Orton did just enough not to screw it up...

21. If Grossman is for real...
the Bears can go all the way. They have two good backs (the #3, Peterson, is good too), a bell cow WR in Muhammad, a fast counterpart in Berrian, and that defense.
After watching the Chargers beat up on the Colts' OL I think a team like the Bears can beat the Colts in the Super Bowl (if the Colts get there).

I also like to tease my Falcons loving husband about his C.A.P.'s (candy-assed p...... <-as I like to refer to them as). It's called a football Vick - you're job is to throw it. To someone wearing a shirt like yours. Over great distances. As soon as this city gets over it's love of all things Michael Vick, it'll be a lot better off. C.A.P.'s.......

Gets to run in 2 or 3 series a game. More when the started was busted up earlier in the season. He is their best running back by average. He deserves a starting job. He is a good blocker and plays special teams.

He won the Walter Payton Award (our division's version of the Heisman) when he was a freshman! And he's just the nicest guy you'd ever hope to meet. He comes back to GA Southern every year and holds a camp for kids. He really gives back to where he came from.

I'm glad to hear he's doing well and that the Bears fans love him. He really deserves it.

24. I don't know about "CFL reject"
take a look at the Falcons winning percentage when he's under center. He's also won a few playoff games as a starter. But...
He hasn't improved any and if he went into the draft this year he would go behind Bush and Leinart for sure (also Brady Quinn if he jumped in) and possibly behind D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Mario Williams. If Vince Young is watching Vick, he may think twice about going pro now.

37. I am most definitely sure about "CFL reject."
I didn't talk about his career overall, I congratulated the Bears for making him look like a CFL reject, and that's exactly what they did. Not even the bottom of the CFL barrel (Hamilton, Winnipeg) would look kindly upon 13 completions in 32 attempts for 122 yards, no touchdowns and two picks. He looked absolutely awful last night and I was loving every second of it.

He's really only had one good game as a passer this year, and when he lucked into that game he had the audacity to tell the media he didn't want to be criticized anymore. Fuck him. Who the fuck does he think he is? Even Favre, Marino and Manning have been criticized in their cities after bad performances, and Vick thinks one decent (not spectacular, just decent - 22/31, 228, 1 TD) passing day gets him a free ride for life? If that asshole couldn't run, he'd be out of the league.

Oh, and if he actually did knowingly infect women with herpes, he belongs in jail.

The only way I could have more contempt for that shithead is if he were a Republican.

36. If the Bears can score 21 points a game
they will go far in the playoffs, and I think Grossman gives them a better chance to do that. They are killing people with their defense, which is starting to look more and more like the great '85 Bear team or the '00 Ravens. No one will want to play them in the post-season, especially if they have to go to Chicago and freeze like the Falcons did last night.

If it can't be the Vikes in the North (and it won't be) better the Bears than the Packers. We needn't talk about the Hapless Lions.
