It's only 7 pm here and I've opened the wine. Damaged my friend's
christmas present that I've been working on for three whole days. Pity me.

2. I pity you....
...now, have another glass. Was the wine to be the gift? Or was it something else?

3. No! It's this mirror! The very large frame of it is covered all over
with a whole pound of Carneols (?? an orange Agate), the sides I've covered with a mirror mosaic. She's been wanting to have this for a year. And it was much more complicated than I thought; I've been doing nothing else for three days, the room is a mess, my hands are shaking, my eyes are blurred, I almost had a bad accident with some tool - and then I'm DONE!!!! and somehow break five of the tiny mirrors on the side! All shattered! One bottle of wine is not enough after this but it's all I have

Thanks for pitying me. :loveya:

5. Thank you for the sympathy, supernova! Yes, I have,
actually I always do. She has an astonishing talent for making super nice gifts which are never expensive; I don't have that talent. But I can make things - usually, if I don't break them in the last minute - and she likes that. So when she mentioned she was thinking of covering a mirror with those stones to go with her couch (an absurd idea because when it comes to craftwork she automatically becomes cross-eyed and sprouts more left hands than the goddess Kali) I jumped on it... And now it's damaged...

6. I'm sorry to hear,
but can't you fix it? Or, even better, call the broken mirrors a 'feature' or 'artistic freedom!'

7. Thank you, Call me Weasley, I'll have to act like the Indians who
made a deliberate mistake in their rugs so the Goddess wouldn't be jealous :)

It could maybe be fixed but I don't have the time anymore, and I don't have the nerve, frankly. It'll have to be fixed in April and not one day sooner (we're about to move and I have to renovate two apartments and I'm handicapped). So I have to give a damaged gift

just eplain to your friend. Even a 'damaged' gift is still agift, and I do believe that's the only thing that counts. :hi:
