5. Vanilla Rum = not good
I don't like it myself, but my wife drinks it from time to time, so we had some handy. And the night's first rum and coke finished off what was left of the real rum, and I wanted another solid drink before i make my traditional late-night switch to white russians, so i gave it a shot.

Bad idea.

7. Try Vanilla Vodka, if you like vodka.
It's good mixed with lots of things. However I wouldn't recommend diet anything.

10. Of the flavored vodkas, I like peach the best. Raspberry was the worst.
Citrus is a must for appletinis.
I do drink other things but I find vodka fits most of my lighthearted moods.

11. I haven't tried a lot of flavored vodkas
or flavored rums, for that matter ... i like the orange rum, but haven't found another i liked very much ... of the vodka, i've liked orange and citrus and had an apple that wasn't bad, but i tend to stick wtih the original :)

I like the vodka for the lighthearted moods too ... white russians are a favorite of mine, but i also like to have vodka on hand for screwdrivers or fuzzy navels or to mix with orange soda (mmm ...) :D

12. i actually prefer the diets most of the time
rum and coke is usually too sweet for me, but rum and diet vanilla coke hits the spot. Jack and coke I can handle, but top off a can of diet cherry coke with jack daniels and it's all good to me :) I can probably agree that diet root beer is never a great choice though (alas, my options were limited). I think the real problem was the vanilla rum:(

Anyway, my Cocktail Rule #1 is drink what works for you :)

15. Root beer should never be mixed with alcohol
I've been working on a hangover cure for years, and root beer is the one constant in that ever-fluctuatiing equation.

Drink as much as you want in the morning, but it should NOT be mixed with alcohol.

Under any circumstances.

I have detailed files on this subject.

18. i'm willing to accept that as a guideline
i've certainly never found a root beer/alcohol mix that i wouldn't be willing to forego forever ...

(are you a uiuc grad? I moved to champaign about four months ago ...)

20. Oskee-wow-wow!
Yes, I am an Illinois alumni. I finished in 2001 and have been living in NYC for the last few years.

I kind of miss Champaign, but I'll probably get to stop in over Christmas.

You go to school there?

(Sorry if this doesn't all add up...I'm a little tipsy)

17. oddly enough
;) (i was hoping that maybe root beer plus vanilla rum would equal something akin to a cream soda, but no dice ;))
