My good neighbor was working on his front porch dressed as an
elf today. The rest of the neighbors have driven him nuts too, I guess.

He spoke to me when I went to get the mail. I had woken up feeling bad and didn't really notice him when I was getting the mail out of the box. He was less than ten feet away at the time too. When I turned to go back across the road, about 20 more cars flew by at breakneck speeds. He said Merry Christmas to me and perked me up. I was able to wait for a break in the traffic with a grin on my face.

This guy is so cool. His cat walks down the driveway with him when he checks the mail. My aunt, who is homebound, looks out the window every day for the mail. She talks about his waddling butt swishing down the driveway and back up again. His cat walks the same way. She is always talking about how the cat stops just at the end of the driveway and waits for him.

I didn't see the cat today. I wonder if the cat is dressed like an elf too.

1. That would be a priceless sight indeed.
Both the neighbor AND the cat dressed as elves sashaying down the driveway!!! If you could get that on video tape... well I am willing to bet that more than one of us here would love to see that!

3. He looked so different than he normally does too.
That was the funny part of it. He's normally a fairly medium build not too muscley guy, but his build is just masculine enough that you would expect to dress up like an elf and pull it off quite so well. I mean he almost looked like Robinhood complete with a feather in his little cap. I loved it. This is my best neighbor. The others stared at me out their windows when I moved into the neighborhood. I grew up down the street from here, but lived further away in between. He was the only one who came out to meet me when I moved in. My aunt ejoys seeing him walk down that driveway so much too.

I hardly ever get to see the good neighbor, but he's always nice when he sees me. The other neighbors NEVER speak except when their sewage spills into my yard. And that did happen too. It's a long story, but let's just say that old terra cotta sewage pipes leading down to the lake should be updated to city sewage and people shouldn't keep flushing the commode all night long even when they KNOW it's washing up into the neighbors yard. I'm glad that little ordeal is over.

4. Awww, they are so adorable.
I kind of hope he does do it. I'd love to see that big cat dressed up. He's such a character. He's one of those regal cats that is older and so well trained it makes him almost human. I love older cats like that. I'm happy to say that I am no longer embarrassed to admit that I get into conversations with cats, especially ones like that. They do listen too. Oddly enough, my Sunday Girl knows everything I tell her. It's amazing how they manage to learn how to understand us, but we haven't a clue what they are saying to us half the time.

6. Maybe you could buy one for him?
They're not that expensive. I saw one at Shopko for $2.99. (my cats would never permit themselves to be seen in them, even for a minute.)

Right now, I'm trying to figure out what Oreo wants. She's been mrowling at me all day.

7. I say bake him some cookies.
If you don't bake, then make him the old stand by, 7 layer cookies.

8. Excellent idea!
I remember once my brother told me that people decorate for Christmas for OTHER people, not themselves - I think this man went the extra mile for his neighbors.

9. I had a lotta fun one day with a Cat In The Hat hat
We got a press kit from the NEA about this new reading program whose mascot was the Dr. Seuss creation. In the kit were two of those red-and-white-striped stovepipe hats. As city editor, I immediately commandeered one (harumph) and wore it when a co-worker and I walked to lunch.

The best part about people looking at you funny is pretending there's nothing unusual. :7
