It's also fun to freak out my mom by ordering HER mom's cocktail--her mom who died in the seventies. It skipped a generation and came back.

4. It was surprisingly good
Although it was a "Perfect" Manhatten. So it was half sweet and half sry vermouth. I think I would have preferred a sweet one.

5. I request a full report.
I love the Manhattan. It grabs you by the lapels, tells you the truth, then sets you down gently and straightens your tie. It leaves you a little wiser. When drunk quickly, it hits you like codeine.

You're much more of a philosopher than I am. I'd just say it kicked my ass. And I do love to drink.

8. Welcome to a world of sublime joy.
Advice: always get it up. Ice kills the flavor. Bourbon makes the best Manhattan, but try it with rye as well.

9. I had my first when I was 5. Or 6.
Well, OK, it was more of a sip. Around here, the ONLY way to make a Manhattan is with Brandy and sweet Vermouth. and a dash of cherry juice.

14. Sorry, that's not a manhattan. It's almost a carol cocktail...
if you added cherry juice (I think), or there's a variant that uses bitters don't remember the name.

10. I'm almost 50 and used to live near Manhattan.
Will Brooklyn do? :) On a much more serious note, my mom used to like them, I drink beer.

My husband makes a quasi-Manhattan every night before dinner..... Some bourbon, some sweet vermouth and a dash of water......divine! :toast:

13. I Didn't Like It - 50 When I Had First One
Since I couldn't afford Sex & City shoes, I tried a Manhattan instead and didn't finish it.

15. I had my first Manhattan 32 years ago
I had just returned from overseas, having just been released from military service. I found myself killing time in a civilian airport waiting for my civilian flight back to civilization and decided to have a civilized drink. The Manhattan seemed to fill that bill. I slept all the way home in a most restful sleep - the first real sleep in a real long time.
