Need gift suggestions for a female.
I've been training for a new job virtually around the clock for the last three weeks. Consequently, I haven't had time to think about what to get my best friend and possible future bride (it's complicated).

She's in her late thirties, likes hiking (but not camping or backpacking), and is a physical fitness nut. But apart from the above she has few interests. I'm thinking something that shows that I care about her would be better than something practical anyway.

Money IS an object (I'm broker 'n yer top ten Bush campaign promises). $20-50 ought to be about right. Any suggestions, DU?

Thanks in advance.

1. I was going to suggest a heart rate monitor...
...but I think those are a bit on the pricey side.

What about some work-out clothes? A nice pair of bike shorts and a sports bra/halter? Could work out for your benefit too....

2. this is at the top of your range,
but I have one and thought it was a neat thing to have when hiking:

it's an altimeter/barometer. You set your altitude at the beginning of the hike and from there you can tell your elevation gain. It's lightweight and a neat toy. It also works as a barometer for when you're not moving, so you can tell what the weather's up to. Froogle has it for $49 from REI but I'd check other sports stores.

4. You could probably get a really nice gift basket
made up; something customised. Tell the gift basket place your price range, describe your lady's hobbies, likes etc. They can usually do something up that's appropriate. Or, just get something shiny or that smells good. That always works with me.:-)

5. some facial moisturizer would perhaps be nice
I know spending a lot of times outside can really dry out your skin...

Clinique is about 20-30 dollars for a nice size of moisturizer.

10. I second that...
I bought a vase for my mom from them, and it is stunning.

I'd go for jewelry if you want something that will show her how you feel...

They are in the $5 to $10 range I think.

I'll find a link.

Here it is.

13. That is a great idea! I used to hike and topo maps are wonderful
for planning good outings!

Put one in a basket along with a 'coupon' to have picnic lunch catered by the giver at the location of the reciever's choice! Says: I see who you are and I want very much to be part of your days.

12. A full body and foot massage.
Some places throw in some extras, some don't. It pays to shop around.

15. Similar to what the first couple of posts suggested, but how about
a pedometer? My parents are reasonably regular walkers and love knowing (roughly) how far they've walked, how long it took (it stops when rested) & how many calories they've burned. I got theirs for not very much - £10-15 max - and it was a pretty decent model.

(And now a very random suggestion -- I'm also very broke and I'm making CD's for my friends made up of mp3's I have on my computer. Several are Rocky Horror fans, so they're getting the Rocky Horror Soundtrack in Norweigan -- it'll give them a smile, it's a little bit thoughtful & it only costs me the price of a blank CD.

FYI - Rocky Horror:

& Jesus Christ Superstar in Japanese (featuring Takeshi Kaga from "Iron Chef"):
