HELP...DUers with Arthritis or Arthritic Pets I have a question...

Have any of you used Magnetic Therapy? Has it helped with the pain?

I'm considering a magnetic pet pad for my dog and one for my neck and shoulders. I just wanted to know if it worked.

I have the dog on glucosimine how long does it take to work, does it work? The dog is salso taking Metacam for pain how effective is it.

Also could some one help me with getting a pic as my siggy? I wanna use a pic of my dog so you can see how awesome he is.

1. Haven't had luck with magnetic therapy myself

but I would try a combination of glucosimine, chondroitin and MSM for your dog. Several premium dog foods contain it, and there's a number of companies that make chewable suppelments for dogs containing all three ingredients.

3. Take it to a vet

Vets these days have effective prescription medications to deal with arthritis in animals. Blood tests are required, and the med needs some monitoring, but they are very effective in treating this painful ailment.

Glucosamine is useful as an adjunct. Your vet can also advise you on a dosage of aspirin for your dog, which is an effective pain med for this condition.

Sorry -- I am very skeptical of magnetic therapy, except as an adjunct. It would be one thing if there existed no effective treatments for the ailment, but it seems silly to me to be experimenting with questionable treatments.

4. Have had my dog on glucosamine and haven't seen a difference

She's just as stiff as before and I can hear her joints popping more and more all the time. She's 11 and I have just begun to accept this as a symptom of old age.

5. We used Rimadyl and acupuncture on our old big guy.

As well as glucosamine. The acupuncture did a lot of good for him. I could see a visible difference. Some animals benefit more from it than others, it depends on age and the severity of the disease. Some animals need it more often than others. Vets started using it with horses and had good results. There are a few in Colorado Springs who do it. The veterinary schools in Colorado and Hawaii have holistic medicine courses that include acupuncture.

Rimadyl is somewhat expensive and some folks use enteric coated aspirin.
