Her technique and delivery are, in my opinion, much better than Hicks'. I know that sounds like heresy, but he really did tend to ramble with a lot of dead space. And he owed a massive debt to Kinison.
She does keep some wretched company, though.

my only criteria for uncritically appreciating someone's work, I would be a huge David Crosby fan.
Her technique is better. I saw Hicks several times on the circuit and there was a lot of dead time in between the laughs. This is not to say that he didn't have some fantastic and hilarious observations. He did, but there was often a lot of huffing and puffing before the punchline. And it IS undeniable that Hicks stole as much from Kinison as Dennis Leary stole from Hicks.
I just get annoyed at the notion that he was some type of comedy martyr. He was no Lenny Bruce. And NBC's Department of Standards and Practices hardly constitutes "the man"
