I'm not a "real" Minnesotan.
We got about eight inches of snow today, and after my friend came over and helped me shovel out the driveway, I decided to clear the back steps. There was a slippery layer under the fresh snow, so I thought I'd utilize a tool to aid in the swift removal of the heinous ice. I went into the garage and got what I immediately recognized as the ice chipper tool that we use every year.

I spent awhile scraping away the ice, when my husband walked out, grinned, shook his head, and said "I should go get the camera." I thought he was referring to the picturesque beauty of my snow-moistened hair and fresh, rosy cheeks.

Not quite. He said, "You're scraping off the stairs with a garden hoe."

I looked down and sure-as-shit, I was using my garden hoe. I swear I think I'm getting early-onset alzheimer's.

2. But you play one on TV
That's hilarious! You may be the first to start a new trend - garden summer, hoe the snow winter - the all-purpose Minnesota tool.

Even better if it's held together with duct tape.

5. Ah-ha! and a fellow Minnesotan to appreciate my idiocy!
We have altogether too many implements in our garage.

11. Trust me, I've got THREE snow shovels...
One for "pushing" the light snow, one for "pushing" the icy snow, and one light plastic one for "tossing" the thick snow...

Oh, and that ice-chipper thingie, too!

Talk about too many implements!

As long as it works!

10. I'm always glad to share a little sliver of my idiocy in order to humor
the masses. I quit being embarrassed by most of my idiosyncrasies some time ago, and have embraced them as fodder for my own (and others') amusement. Gotta be good for something.

7. Funny story . . .
but I can see how a garden hoe could be useful on the ice. I'll have to try it!

9. I'm thinking I could use the plastic kiddie pool as a giant sled, too.
I might have to test that idea out this weekend....
