Another parenting failure for me: two year old in time-out.
So my two-year old (Jack) would NOT for the love of Jeebus, desist from climbing on, pinching and generally aggravating his sister. He also would not hold still long enough for me to put pants on him, and swatted and swung at me when I attempted to chase him down. I tried to sit him in the designated "Time Out" chair, but he WOULD NOT stay in it. So what did I do? I got smart, I got tough.

I took the booster seat (with attached belt) off of his chair at the dinner table, sat it on the floor, strapped him in, and hollered "HAH! How do you like THAT, Jack?!" I went and unloaded the dishwasher and returned to find this:

The little turd was crawling AND freaking WALKING around with the booster still strapped on and hanging off his backside. When he saw me, he tried to crawl under the coffee table, but he got stuck, because HE HAD A BOOSTER SEAT HANGING OFF HIS ASS! I had to run into the kitchen, so as not to laugh hysterically in front of him.

4. That might work! My daughter had her first haircut today,
She liked the spray-bottle they spritzed her hair with, and on the way home in the car, she said "I can't ever wash my hair, because the spray will come off and they'll have to cut my hair again." My kids were just extra-wierd today. It was fun!

6. I've said it before and I'll say it again,
little boys are driven. How they ever make it to 21, I don't know. My team leader and his wife had a little boy the day after Thanksgiving. I told him that the kid's first 12 years would be devoted to joyfully trying to get himself killed. I've been there.

showing these pictures to people.

Naa, you wouldn't actually do that, but it's kind of fun to contemplate.

9. Look at those red cheeks. He might have allergies.
Our Little Guy seemed to go completely insane when he was three...turned from a happy, smiling-all-the-time kid, into a gibbering, uncontrollable monster.

We took him to his doctor, who IMMEDIATELY diagnosed allergies, and turned out to be right.

I had always thought that the symptoms of allergies were sneezing and so on, but the truth is that obnoxious behavior can be a symptom too, and maybe the only one.

Or, the little booger could just be being a 2-year-old boy...

12. He just has Minnesota cheeks!
He has very dry skin and a little cold wind turns them quite rosy; and yeah- he's become a scary little dickens, of late. I think he's frustrated that he can't communicate well. He isn't able to say many (discernable) words and he has limited signing skills, though that is improving, at least. He understands a great deal, but expressive language continues to be his most significant area of delay, thus far.

47. How well does the signing go?
I have a cousin who recently gave birth to a child w/ Downs. I've told her(on the advice of a friend who worked w/ Downs and autistic children) to find out about programs that offer that as an option. She seems to think it won't make a difference.
Since your child has learned sign I'm wondering if you have noticed a significant difference in communication skills? I know that they say it can help any child but I think her child will especially benefit from it.

50. It's a must. Studies have shown it to benefit verbal skillls.
It bridges an important gap in communication between being able to understand language and being able to express it. There's usually a disparity between the two skills for some time, in typical children, but in children with Downs, it's a significantly greater gap. We've signed with him since he was an infant. He's currently quite fond of "eat," "drink," "stop," and "more." He has difficulty acquiring spoken language in the form of single words; it's odd- he won't say "Mama" much, but he'll say, "what's dat?" :P He won't say "yes" or "no," but he'll say, "I did it!" Expressive language has been the area of Jack's most significant delay thus far, so I deal with ALOT of speech therapy.

17. Tough little guy
It's hard to out-think 2 year olds, as I had to learn the hard way. My son has a 3 month old, and I think I'll show him these pictures to show him what he has to look forward to. His little guy has devoloped this, well high pitched screech kind of cry. You'd think something was wrong with him, but no. Well maybe a bottle or a change or to be picked up and treated like the prince he is--but nothing like the emergency this screech (no other way to describe it) would indicate. Wonder how he learned it. It works.

20. My nephew sounded like a pterodactyl.
I remember going to see him in the hospital, looking at his delicate little face in my sil's arms; his soft cheeks, fuzzy hair, tiny nose...and then he opened his mouth...:scared: It was the most hideous infant-screech I had EVER heard. Didn't take him long to figure out that NOBODY wanted to hear HIM cry!

23. He's stubborn and wily.
Last night I went in to check on him before I went to bed, and he woke up and jumped up in his crib with his pudgy little arms outstretched. I let him sleep in my bed for awhile, because I couldn't pass him by...he's just too sweet. He laid on my chest and snuggled for about fifteen minutes, until I put him back in his own bed. He just makes my heart go squooshy, and he knows it!
