tell me if this is ridiculous
I am a contractor doing a database/helpdesk assignment. I've been there 7 weeks and this is my 2nd week on call. I've been asking about the oncall schedule (there are only 2 other people that I rotate with) for over a month but they only tell me a few days before. This morning I got the schedule for the rest of the year and guess what, I am on call 24/7 for Dec 23-30th.

I can only bill for hours actually worked. There are only 2 days the company is open during those 7 so I can only bill for 16 hours during a week that I am on call for 7 days, 24 hours a day. If I get called and have to do work, then I can bill for that time. But I have to be available and networked within 15 minutes that entire week just in case something comes in.

Is that total bullshit or am I just not being a good sport?

1. Yes it's ridiculous but
as a contractor, you will always get the crappiest assignments. That's just the way it is in the contracting world. That is, however, why contractors get paid the big bucks. Sorry.

2. Why is no one else sharing that week with you?
If there are 2 other people, why can't they take some of that time off your hands?

6. The oncall rotations are a whole week at a time
24 hours a day for 7 days
Everyone has to take a whole week at a time. Normally I don't mind but when the oncall covers 5 unpaid days off, it truly sucks.

3. write a stored procedure in the database that stops it twice a day
go in, hide in the server room, start it back up

rinse, repeat
