Our cat finally caught the mouse
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 12:39 PM by bif
And left it in his food bowl as a present for us. He caught it about two weeks ago, and when I calmly said his name he dropped it and the mouse ran away. I'd much rather it wax killed by our cat than by a mousetrap.

2. That happened to us last summer
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 01:13 PM by HereKittyKitty
Our resident serial killer, Salem, brought a mouse in and when I tried to chase him out he dropped it. I freaked out for a week becuase I'm completely paranoid and was worried about hantavirus, etc. Anyway, he finally caught it and ate it. Icky.

I'm glad your cat caught your mouse. Mice are cute and all, but the disease factor is MORE than enough for me.

There's something a bit easier about them being eaten by cats than being trapped- Maybe it's because it's natural.

3. yeah, a cat frightening and torturing the mouse to death is way better
than quickly and painlessly snapping its spine

my ex's cat used to catch them and "play" with them, sometimes for a long time. They'd frequently get away, but he was a pretty successful hunter.

12. My cat would eat everything but the skulls
and leave those on my doorstep. Must have been channelling a Cambodian warlord or something.

13. Odd. My own huntress loves the heads. It's the best part, I guess.
Once, she caught and killed a weasel, and the only bit she ate was the head. Of course, she might have had another one before that as an appetizer. Her mice, either she eats them headfirst, or she presents them to her daughters, who prefer to eat them first.

They do love to leave them at the front door, though, don't they?

14. Oh, he would eat the flesh
but leave the denuded (and empty) skulls. I didn't know if he was building a collection, trying to keep count or just wanted recognition/praise for his kills. I once read that hunting and killing is innate among cats, but they have to learn (or be taught) how to eat their kill. That could explain the wide differences among their eating habits.
