CRUISE HAWKS FAKE FIRE CURE

December 14, 2005 -- TOM Cruise will make a rare personal appearance tonight at the Tribeca Rooftop to raise money for a controversial Church of Scientology program that claims to be healing firefighters and rescue workers who breathed toxic smoke on 9/11.
Cruise is a co-founder of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, and declares, "More than 500 individuals have recovered health and job fitness through this project — but for thousands more, the passage of time is only bringing more suffering. The strain on their lives, their families and their careers is tremendous."

Tickets starting at $6,250 get you face time and a picture with Cruise, plus dinner and dancing to the Alex Donner Orchestra. No word on whether pregnant Katie Holmes will be by his side. "It will be a night you will never forget," a mailing from Cruise promises.

However, doctors say the "purification rundown" dreamed up by science fiction writer and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard is worthless quackery consisting of sauna sweating, ingestion of cooking oil and large doses of niacin.

4. I know that Scientologists have been trying to "cure" the rescue workers
So I'm sure it's also true that Cruise is doing a benefit dinner for them.

6. The benefit dinner is pay for the 'cure' for them
not for the money to go to the firefighters themselves.

15. Why do you insist on saying that I don't know that?
I said it before, then I agreed with you when you "corrected" me.

16. I'm sorry, it looked like you were saying that the money
was going to the firefighters. I misunderstood you.

8. They do beleive this
And they use it to "cure" heroin addicts, poisoning victims, etc

It's complete BS, as is ALL scientology.

Someone needs to dig L. Ron Hubbard out of his grave and kick him in the taco...

Tom Cruise Under Attack From New York Fire Fighters

<snip>
To prove how serious he is about the project he has financially supported a new Scientology clinic that favours the alternative remedies.

However, the New York fire department are totally against the idea. Deputy Fire Commissioner Frank Gribbon said to Pagesix.com: "If our doctors are prescribing medication, and they (Scientologists) are saying 'don't take it', that's a problem for us."

The Fire department deputy chief medical officer is also critical of the Scientologist’s beliefs, Gribbon continued: "He (Prezant) is not pleased when patients are advised to disobey doctors' orders. That's where he drew the line."

Cruise recently came under fire after he condemned the use of anti-depressants for post-natal depression.

11. It sounds like Cruise is pulling a "limbaugh"
Limbaugh is asking his listeners to pay for Iraq soldiers to have access to Rush's '24/7' membership on his website. Basically what Rush is saying is he wants to make more profits off of his listeners and he's using the soldiers as the sympathy key to why his listeners should give him more money for something he could basically give away free to the soldiers in the first place.

Scientology has enough money that if this service actually works they could give it to firefighters for free and use the money from this fundraiser to help pay for equipment upgrades the firefighters need to help do their job. Just like Rush could take this money he is getting from his listeners, give the solders who want access free access and then use the money to buy something useful like desparately needed body armor!

14. "large doses of niacin"
My step-son accidentally overdosed himself with niacin once. He had the niacin
in an aspirin bottle and took them for a headache... (Aside: He said he wondered
why his headache wasn't going away.)

Turned Santa Claus red... Had a hot flash which lasted about 4 hours.

It was sort of funny after it was realized what had happened...

He walked around the house going... "WHEW!" "WHEW! WHEW!" and I told him
he reminded me of a steam train.

18. Freakin' $cientology quackery.
The doctors are right. It's nothing but huge doses of niacin and sweating your ass off in a sauna.

Like everything involved with $cientology, it's a fraud at best, and physically harmful (or in some cases lethal) at worst.
