Is anyone else so turned off to commercials?
I just wondered if it was me, or if others would turn off a movie, or change the channel and watch something else when you are being pitched commercial after commercial. I will be in the middle of watching something, and a particularly nauseous commercial will come on, and I will just turn off the TV entirely.

I refuse to go out to see movies since I am a captive audience and can't mute the damn thing or leave. When in the hell did that start anyway?

Here in the south, the local channels have some doozies. You mostly see for credit repair and attorneys...a good reflection of what is going on down south.
I now get my local weather online instead of watching the news.

This evening, NOVA had a show on PBS which was talking about targeting consumers with commercial advertisements. They used the movie I Am Sam to show how corporations are getting their name used in movies, in this case it was one of the major coffee houses. I refuse to use their name...ha!

Then they spoke how changing the language of the message, ie Death Tax instead of Estate Tax can make a difference. Reminded me of Clear Skies Initiative as an excuse to further pollute the planet.

More and more, I am refusing to tune into TV. I am sick and tired of being marketed to every second.

1. This is why Dog invented the remote control
I get a bit of a kick out of knowing AmerikaCorps is spending bajillions on ads, and I'm dismissing them with the press of a button. Take that, you asshats!

These days, especially if it begins with "We wish you a happy Honda day..." :grr:

3. Sometimes I can't get to the remote in time...so I turn off the TV
I might be rinsing dishes or whatever, but I go for the BIG button and turn off whatever I am watching. If I am really interested in the program, I will just mute the commercials.

There are "some" stations however, where I grow so tired of the frequency of commercials, I just give up on the show.

5. its not just the commercials - its 99% of the programming too
get rid of your TV or at least just rent movies. If you think commercials are disturbing - go without television for a few years and then watch a few - talk about a real physical sort of reaction!

6. Radio is Even Worse
Ya turn on the radio, you want to hear music, NPR or Air America, NOT COMMERCIALS! I turn commercials off in 2 seconds or less, same for TV.
