need advice re: TiVo and Linux users

I am thinking about getting TiVo. Basically, I am deciding between the 40 hour box or the 80 hour DVR box. I know the 80 h DVR can burn DVR's, which is nice, but it is all the more expensive. I read that the 40 hour basic box is running Linux inside, so I am wondering: can you mount the TiVo harddrive as an external device onto your Linux-running PC and copy video files from TiVo to your PC drive? Any advice from anyone who knows both 40 and 80 DVR will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
