Do cows think grass tastes good?
Tiddlywinks and I were out in cattle country today, and this one cow was munching that grass like her life depended on it. (Which I suppose it does.) But now I wonder: do they think grass tastes good? Or do they eat it because that's all there is and they don't know anything better?

This is one of life's great unanswered questions.

1. i think they like it
if they didn't they could eat other things(bushes, trees etc)... at least free range cows can.

3. I was thinking it would get very old after a while
This cow apparently woke up and said to herself, "YES!!! More grass!!! I love it!"

Hmmm...now I'm thinking cheeseburger.

2. Who knows how cow tastebuds work...
of course I could say the same for my son, I keep catching him eating spiders. Thankfully it's now to cold and I'm hoping by next spider season he has moved on to a new snack:)

Especially with the lack of opposable thumbs.

10. I'd forgotten about that
I've seen several cats eat grass. Okay, next time I go outside, I'm eating some grass, to see how it is.

What if I like it?

14. Binky does resemble a little Holstein.
All white, with dark brown cow-patch spots. And she loves grass as much as any cow...
But I ain't about to milk her. Nope. No way.

13. I've read somewhere that
cats and dogs both with eat grass to settle their stomachs. Many cats and dogs will only eat grass when not feeling well. I've noticed my own cat will only eat catnip when she is having bowel problems.

15. Could be...
but mine go nuts when I bring in a handfull of grass from outside.
They'll eat the store-grown stuff, but they really love the blades from overgrown grass stalks. It must be the call of the wild.

18. This reminds me
of that genius Gary Larson cartoon with a herd of cows eating grass in a field, and one cow stands up in utter shock and says something like "Hey! This is grass! We've been eating grass this whole time!"

i had nothing to contribute, but i felt like i should speak. lol. that is all.
