Why do people like to post pics of themselves?

Seriously. It's embarrassing. The few times I did it occurred years ago and they weren't even flattering either. Why do people put themselves 'out there'? I was young and dumb when I did it but I see older woman then me do it too. Why?

It's more a way of sharing than anything else. I kinda like seeing what other people look like. It's nice to put a face with a name, at least.

It's not like you have to be airbrushed to purfection with dramatic lighting and everything.

I'm not joking here. You and I have had a few conversations, and I'd not mind having a face to connect to the name.

There may be other motivations, but I suspect that's one of the strong ones. Community is built on familiarity, isn't it?

But yeah I can understand where you're coming from. I'm not from the US but I do find Americans are much more willing to e-mail and send others their photographs or post them on public forums than British and Australians are (as a general rule).

I think it's nice though -although I won't ever post my photo because I'm too shy

I'm just not into anonymity, frankly......

And I enjoy seeing my friends' pictures as well...as Redstone said, it's nice to put a face with the name...

Somehow posting pics makes the web so much more reality based.....

after being victim of someone on another website crossposting my photo without my permission AND making fun of it, i decided never again to do so. it was a good picture too, but this person distorted it and made it look terrible.

never again will i be out there for all to see. "fooled me once, won't get fooled again"!
