Soccer World Cup draw
The USA will be in group E, along with Italy, Ghana, and the Czech Republic. Next summer ought to be interesting, Italy is a great team, and the Czechs are always a threat.

1. The live commentary said: "This looks like a good group."
Translation: we're in danger of going from quarterfinalists to group-play roadkill in the span of four years. :scared:

2. Italy
Italy's the wild card in my mind - they are just not the same team they used to be. The Czechs are the team that's going to keep me up at night next summer.

3. it will be an interesting draw. I think I will try to grab some seats
I still look over the last cup (spousette and I video'd every single game for posterior. She is as big a fan as I)
American football has nothing but ads, replays, ads, inane commentary, ads, and replays. There are fewer and fewer plays a game.
There is so little action that you can actually plot each play as though it were choreographed (which some appear to be).
Football will die a slow death. Basketball is having trouble. Ice hockey is gasping. Baseball is just plain boring.
But soccer. ah sport of sports.

Italian soccer has suffered through a drought. I think bob will put up a strong team to counter their speed and moves. The czechs? I agree. they are the sleepers of the tourney.

5. It could have been worse for the USA
My worst nightmare for this draw would have been to have been seeded in with the Netherlands and either the Germans or Brazilians. We dodged that bullet, though. On the other hand, I was hoping that the English would get drawn into the same group as Australia - that would have been a ton of fun to watch.

I visited London this past October, and got to watch the England-Poland qualifier from a pub while I was there. I had more fun watching that game than I've had in a very, very long time.

6. I don't think so
The Czech team is far overrated, Italy certainly is the stronger opponent of the two.

8. he's just doing it for kicks.
I know it sounded foul, but if we corner him, I think we can keep things onsides.

12. My son;s friend (they played club soccer together) lives in germany
and the friend is handling the game arrangements.. It's basically going to only cost him for airfare. The friend has a 4 bedroom house and they will be staying there..

My son is somewhat familiar with Europe and is so eager to go back. he went to college in Florence and used the hell out of his Eurailpass:)

The best part.. He called his hockey pals he met in Nice (they play on some Canadian Hockey team) and they are meeting him in Germany.. a reunion of sorts..

He only has 9 days, and so far has about 3 months' worth of things he wants to do and places he wants to re-visit :)

13. cool
It is next to impossible to get tickets in Europe; even the normal political channels were shut down by a minor scandal; most tickets were given to the sponsors. As a result, pretty much the only way to get tickets is a) working for McDonald's, Coca Cola, Master Card or Anheuser Bush or b) winning a lottery.
