You know...I was just over in General Discussion and I have to say...
I would prefer my children's company over about 80% of the American public any day. No this isn't meant to be a popcorn party, just a giant thank you to my kids.

Nicole-

-You were the thing I feared most. I lived in dread of the day you would arrive and start demanding of me things I wasn't sure I could provide. On a snowy March afternoon we first met. That very first day, we had an argument over your diaper. I told you I was always going to win, and we continued on. And boy, have we argued. We have also laughed, cuddled, cried, commiserated. It used to be that nothing beat cuddling on the couch with you after a long hard day at work in our first little house together...the trailer. I remember you saying,"Momma wake up...it's time for us to play." I remember a lot that I should have enjoyed more while I had the chance. You were my inspiration to grow up, work hard and care for something other than myself. And, you are a blast when we rock out together in the car to all my old favorite 80's tunes. If I were not responsible for your behavior, you would be my best friend. I cannot imagine ever not wanting you...and am ashamed of ever contemplating it.

James-

-After Nicole, you were the one that took so long in coming. I was so stupid to think that you would be easy. Three attempts, three late losses...one so late I thought it would kill me to go home empty armed. I gave up, and you deemed it the right time to join us. You are the one that taught me that we don't always get what we want...when we want it. And that, when we do get it, we should treasure it. Every day of your life has been a gift, as cliched as it seems. My memories of you, thus far, are of the darling baby boy who captivated all with his big dark eyes. The child that, when you look at him, you can see the responsible and handsome ( I can be this biased as your mom) man you will someday become. Of the four of us, you are the sensitive one, the one who would save the world...who cries over the trials and troubles of his friends...who comes to me in the middle of the night to wrap me in his sweet baby sleepiness to cry that he doesn't want to grow up. You are the one who gave me reason again...and saved me from myself. I cannot imagine ever not having you...and am grateful for the brutal lessons learned in the wait.

DU-

-Let me thank you for letting me share why my kids are important to me...even though we've never shared a single conversation (the kids and I) in baby talk...even when I thought I wasn't mother material. You just never know.

Have a Great Day. :hi:

2. When I was very ill last year, I wrote them...and all of the special
people in my life, notes. I sealed them in envelopes and put them in my safe deposit box. I never wanted to leave this earth without them knowing what they have done for me.

Good Morning/Afternoon, MissHoney! Always good to see you. :)

;) Ask my kids.

Off topic, but I wanted to tell you the other day that I figured out who it is you remind me of (in your college picture thread). Cameron Diaz, only better. And I think she is gorgeous and funny.

7. Your kids sure are lucky MrsG.
Now whatcha' getting them for christmas? x( ;-) :D

I must agree with you, after a several years of hanging out with the young 'uns by necessity, now I'd rather hang out with them than most adults (like 95% for me)

Tomorrow is the youngest's 8th b-day. He's getting linbacker big. Says he wants to play for the Steelers. Asks his mom: will dad be mad? what will he do will all his Packer stuff? who will he cheer for if the Packer play the Steelers?

Why kids are better? They are innocent, and crack me up half the time.

27. Funny how they will learn that, and then do it over and over and over
again whenever you look at them. :) My son, when he was about that age, used to crawl over, pull himself up on my leg, smush his face into my leg and blow really hard. :hi:

She'll hold her hand up and open her fingers so I can blow a raspberry into the palm of her hand. :) She likes to smile, and the people at daycare call her "smiles." :hi:

:D

Right now, she's so peaceful sometimes just when she's sleeping. I like to go into her room at night before I go to bed and just look at her.

I hope I have your perspective once she's older.

23. I think they do, only in that they are growing up to be decent people.
Even if they sometimes "act out" at home...in public, they are kind, respectful and willing to go out of their way to help. Thanks khash. I never knew I would love them this much. I honestly worried about it when I was pregnant with my daughter because of my own "issues" with my mom. You're the best, and I've missed you of late.

32. Oh, I know that feeling.....
I always wanted a daughter. Then when I was about to have one, I was devastated. I thought I couldn't do it. I thought "How dare I saddle her with ME as a father!" Oh, I wanted her, but I felt totally incapable. I also felt that maybe I should just not be involved in her life - better to have no father than to have me.

But it didn't work out that way. I love her so much. What an idiot I was! I can't imagine not having her in my life. And I 've been a better father than I ever thought I could be.

I went through the same crisis of conscience with my nephew after my sister died. I knew I had to be there for him. But I didn't think I could. Well, I have and I am and I will always be there.

Khash.

I think we all face those moments of uncertainty, especially when challenged with the thought of being responsible for a whole other person. I can just imagine the kind of Dad you are. :hi:
