Mark Loretta for Doug Mirabelli. OMFG!
This just reinforces my opinion that Kevin Towers is the worst GM in baseball. Loretta is one of the few guys that can hit with consistency. Mirabelli is a lifelong back-up, who the Sox kept around to catch Wakefield's knuckler. The Padres dont have a knuckleball pitcher. Plus they allready have a decent catcher in Ramon Hernandez.
WTF!:wtf:

So Padres fans of DU. All four of us, what do you think about this stinker?

2. Hell, I wish he had called up the Cards
I'm sure we would have had a better offer.

3. You missed something in the article.
It says:

"The 35-year-old will give the Padres an experienced receiver with Ramon Hernandez leaving via free agency".

That does make a difference. Plus, it dumps some salary. I don't care about either team, so my input on this topic is minimal, but I at least thought I would point that out.

Here's the deal...the Padres CANT hit! Its not the ballpark, other teams seem to be able to hit homers, its the SD Padres! Loretta can hit, Mirabelli cant. Hernandez can hit, Mirabelli cant.
Trade for a Home Run Hitter! We need one here. Ryan Klesko is old and sucks! Brian Giles will never hit 35-38 HRs like he did in Pittsburgh! Sign a Home Run Hitter!
Towers has been patting himself on the back long enough. Lets fire him and hire Theo Epstein if he's still available.
A very bad trade IMO!

5. They probably think that Loretta is injury-prone now.
And that they should get something for him before his stock drops even more. You know?

Hey, I hear you about the team trying to snatch up a home-run hitter. The Twins talk constantly about picking one up and they never do. Maybe the Pads are talking with Frank Thomas too. He's on the market now, after being refused arbitration by the Sox, and he's looking for a place to play. Too bad he couldn't DH for the Pads. His 1st base days are probably over.

6. I just read another possible rationale:
Apparently, the Pads are trying to ditch salary in a last minute attempt to re-sign Trevor Hoffman.

7. John Moores may have to free-up some of his billions if he's taking this..
seriously. Sure its his money, but you have an obligation to the fans to put a good team on the field.
