Friday is my Quitting Day.
I'm posting it here so I can't back out. ;)

After (good Lord, has it been) nearly a decade of moderate smokin' I'm heaving the ciggies. I don't care how cool I look anymore. :P

Friday night, with the help of a wee nip 'a courage, I'm smoking my last one. Any remaining at 12:01 AM head down the toilet, as I stumble off to bed.

The weekend is mine alone, I've got nothing doin' but to stay home and clean the house. And push-ups. And whatever else it takes.

It's time. Wish me luck, Lizards. :toast:

1. I'll be right there with you!
I'm quitting next Friday, after finals (I don't want to go through withdrawal in the middle of exams!).

Good Luck!

3. YES! And major props to you, my dear Robb, for taking this step!
You will look VERY cool without the cigarettes! And your lungs will thank you so much....

As will the rest of your body!

The first few days are the worst....so be ready to be tempted, time and again.....

You MUST resist!

Good luck indeed...but really, you'll make your own luck!

Please keep us posted on how it's going......

It is a fight that is definitely worth winning, IMHO......

7. Good for you, Robb.
You sound very determined, and that sounds like a very good plan. Plus, you've got a whole Loungeful of Lizards to cajole, harass, and support you in the process. Good for you :)

8. Good
Okay here is some advice.

First of the pushups are a very good idea. You will be amazed at how fast you get pumped/ripped. That reminds me that I need to get back on the excercise thing.

Don't think about how long it has been or how long you have to go until you DO have another one. You really just need to accept that you aren't going to smoke anymore. Try to make it a positive not a constant NO NO NO NO to yourself. I am not trying to be cumbaya here just letting you know that you will get tired of "punishing" yourself if you look at it that way.

I highly recommend chewing gum-Orbit is the way to go and Citrusmint is by far their best. Great container too-it will remind you of a pack of cigs. Any Wrigley product is made in No.America and I would go with them for the taste and performance (ORbit/Eclipse) but stay away from their Cinnamon they don't do that too well IMHO

The thing that I laugh at now is not having to stop and get smokes on the way home or on the way to work. I used to LIVE around them. It is amazing to realize now. I was constantly "checking the ammo" as it were and anywhere (restaurant/football game/anywhere) I went required an assessment of whether I could smoke and if not how long it would take and what I needed to do to make sure that I smoked somewhere....wow that is a lot of thought process into just living isn't it?

Good luck. You will want one-I still do daily- you just have to realize that while you can entertain it you don't want to "give up those days" even if it just one..once you get to say 10 you are personally invested.

Take a deep breath every once in a while and DO go look at people smoking and think about all this. One last thing (I swear) $1,500 a year that is what it cost me approximately in cash and that is right here in Tobaccoville USA Richmond Va. we can smoke in church if we really want to for crying out loud.

9. Go Robb! Go Robb!
I'm in week seven. It did suck alot early on, but it was worth it and it gets better every week. I smoked about 1 to 1+1/2 packs a day when I quit. I'd smoked for the better part of eleven years. You CAN do it! Good luck and drop in and whine if it's going rough and you need some moral support!

11. You can bitch out anyone you want!
It's very cathartic--pitch a big fit over anything you want and then tell people, 'Oh man, it's that I just quit smoking.' You can get away with it for about a week. Heh.

Anyway, good luck! I quit the cold turkey route almost three months ago and after the first few days of wall-crawlin' I was golden. :hi:

14. You are on the right track.
I planned my quit day too! Went out and had a few, then came home and smoked till I couldn't smoke anymore. Put the rest and the ashtray in the trash..TOOK THE TRASH OUT...and went to bed.

Have you considered using the patch? It worked for me. Make sure you have some pretzel sticks and plenty of beverages (non alcoholic) stocked up. Rent some movies, munch pretzels, drink icy drinks and marvel with each hour that goes by that you have not smoked.

Please post how you are doing.
