Goodbye.
To GD and LBN.

Let's face it. Things are about to collapse in this country.

I'm frigging tired of being wound up and worried. I can't do jack shit and past experience proves I will not be able to get another job, not even in the "booming" retail sector.

I know I am a pawn in this society. One of many. All of which are now expendable or are shortly going to be.

There is no loyalty for us. We are condemned. And there is no escape.

And I needed a coworker to convince me not to walk out of work... and she's right. We, the pawns, have to be better than the kings and queens - no matter how despicable and unworthy they truly are. We can do nothing.

But whatever time remains, I'm going to try to live it and stop whining about things I cannot control, which are far too many. Though for quite a few things it's already beyond too late for me...

and if I knew I'd be gone in January, I'd cut off my credit card payment now and spend that big-ass sum on anything that'd want me. (which means I'd still have the same amount of money in my pocket...)

Anybody have a book on how to live? I lack the experience. and need some pronto.

1. My dearest HypnoToad,
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 10:52 PM by MiniMandaRuth
I know what you are saying.

But I am one of the reasons not to give up the fight. Myself, and the other children.

You are a witty, intelligent person. You can help. You don't have to break the next big newstory, but you can always march in a protest. That helps.

If nothing else, you have a friend in MIniMandaRuth.

 One from me, whom you have brought laughter to.

:grouphug: And one from DU, for they are all grateful for what light you have brought to all of us.

2. I 'second' what MiniMandaRuth said...
And if you ever need a sympathetic ear, you can count on me!

3. Logical error
Past experience proves nothing. We rewrite the slate every day, my friend, and every day is a new possibility.

I speak as one who has been in some fairly suboptimal situations, lately (it's natural to ask "what next?" when it's flying at you like shrapnel from an exploding outhouse), and who is even now only millimeters from the edge of financial oblivion and such crap, with a 'personal' life until so very recently both empty and complicated. Well, it's still complicated. So I'm not someone saying "cheer up" because I know that realities need to be faced, not glossed over. I just think that you are facing realities that are not real, and that you would do better to look more carefully at what is actually you and what is illusion.

Yes, things are dire in this country. Yes, you can expect no mercy from The Man these days, all things being equal. But it's ultimately you, not them, that is in charge of your course. I've been watching you for several years now and I know that you have issues that you struggle with, but I also know that you have much to offer the world. And yourself.

So don't go anywhere but up. As one who has as much reason as you to lose hope, I'm telling you that you can't afford to, because sometime's it's all you've got until you can take the concrete steps that lead to your hope, or something better, becoming your reality.

Enjoy yourself -- fine -- but take those steps, too. Where you go will not be perfect -- nothing is -- but it will be some kind of approximation if you forget about the Blue Meanies and think outside the box that they want you to be confined by. Don't let the f***ers get you down.

4. Personally, I think we should take Gates' advice
And start getting all of our direct deposits in Euros, and in a UK bank account. Makes it easier to emigrate should we need to as well.

As for IT as a profession, right now I am watching the companies who outourced their IT departments reap what they sowed. OUtsourcing IT to India has done nothing but cost them $$$$ and screwed up their networking. Brownouts, cost of Gas for generators, etc... this has KILLED them. Government red tape, lack of American style customer service - all of this is really hurting IT departments who went overseas and many are coming back.

Oh, and heads are rolling. Take pleasure in a little Shadenfreude my friend.

6. i know of one company that tried to implement Indian software
They invested who knows how much money and over a year. In the end, they had to go to a local software company and buy a package. Outsourcing is backfiring and IT might be coming back to the US. Having said that, if you are going to stick to IT, KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM. Networking and admin gigs are expendable, but developers/programming is harder to come by for employers.

7. Or diversify and go into sales....
Although then your job (and comission) is subject to the whims of the market...

5. i cant suggest a "book on how to live"
but i would ask (which im sure has been suggested before)
if there are any support groups or individual that can help you through these tough times

clearly you have much going on - and arent alone on any count - so i just hope for you that you can find some outlet
there are wonderful books out there
perhaps some group or person to begin to share things with
or to observe and learn how others are coping in similar situations

best wishes hypno
there doesnt often exist easy answers for what are life problems for most of the planet

its true most of us arent valued for who we really are or what we have to offer but i do wish you the knowing that you are very important
ultimately that comes from the inside
and i very much wish you the means to gain the strength to know that and believe in your deserved place in this life

8. revisitng Boo Radley: "Boo, an intelligent child ruined...
"by a cruel father, is one of the book’s most important mockingbirds; he is also an important symbol of the good that exists within people. Despite the pain that Boo has suffered, the purity of his heart rules his interaction with the children. In saving Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell, Boo proves the ultimate symbol of good." from the synop ~

understanding full-well what you have said i...am but a cog in vast & great, slow turning wheel still...

In with the early dawn
Moving right along
I couldn’t buy an eye of sleep
And in the aching night
Under satellite
I was not recieved
With the stolen parts
A telephone in my heart
Someone get me a priest
To put my mind to bed
This ringing in my head
Is this a cure is or is this a disease

Hey hey I said
Near as I can figure
You gave me life now
Show me how to live
Hey hey I said
Near as I can figure
You gave me life now
Show me how to live

In the afterbirth
On the quiet earth
Let this things remind me
You thought you made amend
You better think again
Before my row defines you

Hey hey I said
Near as I an figure
You gave me life now show me how to live
Hey hey I said
Near as I can figure
You gave me life now
Show me how to live

And in your waiting hands
I will land
And roll out of my skin
And in your final hours I will stand
Ready to begin
Ready to begin
Ready to begin
Ready to begin

Hey hey I said
Near as I can figure
You gave me life now
Show me how to live
Hey hey I said
Near as I can figure
You gave me life now
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
