Fellow band geeks... is this you?
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 01:29 AM by MiniMandaRuth
It's me, that's for sure.

A band geek is a person who:
1. plays one or more musical instruments well
2. eats, lives, sleeps in bandroom
3. considers band the most important class of day and frequently skips other classes to go to it
4. Has CPS (chronic playing syndrome) but does not suffer, rather enjoys every minute
5. Dates exclusivly band (or other musical: e.g. chorus) people
6. Understands band jokes
7. 99% chance of a horribly peverted mind
8. Worships band director/ drum major as god/jesus
9. Is in marching band and loves it more than life itself
10. has seen a lot of the other people in band and guard
11. IS INCREDIBLY AWESOME/COOL

Number 7 is certainly me, and only my friends know that. Trust me, WAY to many inappropriate trombone jokes in Jazz Band.

On edit: Whoops! Little replacement of letters!

3. My son, although he is not a band geek
as he is not in the high school band this year, has several of those attributes...He practices his guitar and piano almost non stop. Next year when he is in band, he will be playing trombone in the band. He does not date yet, however.

6. Better be quick or he'll end up like my good friends Rob and david.
WAY too many inappropriate jokes to be healthy.

And I always walk away wondering where the hell my mental windex is.

4. Good for you.
You can almost always take band geeks at face value. What you see is what you get.

I myself was a band geek, and became a choir director. Now I have my own little choir geeks that come to my room in the mornings and afternoons, just to see if they've missed out on anything.

I WAS those kids.

Oh yeah... what's the difference between a bari sax and a chainsaw? Vibrato... :)

How do you make a trombone sound like a french horn? Put your hand in the bell and miss a lot of notes!

:)

9. Oooo.. Our jokes are soooo much worse than that.
Oy. Put two teenage boys with raging hormones on either side of me... and I'm quite the... err... 'big' gal right there, and they CAN'T FRICKIN' STOP WITH THE DAMN JOKES.

And it was REALLY bad when one band performing had six trombones and one bass trombone.

Rant off.

5. Like this one time, at band camp...
I might have become a band geek, but it never came to fruition. When I was in grade school we were given a musical aptitude test, on which I scored well. It was recommended that I take band if I had an interest, which I did. Unfortunately the instruments had to be rented (unless you had your own) and my mom couldn't afford it, so I wasn't able to join.

7. If you're still interested...
And if you have one in the area, Ted Brown is pretty reasonable. I get my alto sax from there.

They have quite a big selection.

I think I still have that memorized!

The clarinet part at the trio was a bitch, too.
